Sharon M. Damewood

Sharon M. Damewood, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend, passed from our world peacefully Friday, October 28, 2022, at The Sheridan, Lakewood Ranch, Florida, at the age of 80.

The former Sharon Mary Smith was born November 19, 1941, in Grinnell, Iowa. Her parents were William and Charlotte (Kehoe) Smith. She married Gary D. Damewood on December 30, 1961, in Davenport, IA. They were married for 60 years and 10 months. Sharon graduated from Assumption High School, Blackhawk College (R.N. degree), and the University of Illinois (Bachelor’s degree). She stayed home for many years raising her four children. In the early 1980s, she decided to enroll in college. At the age of 40, as she sat in a required general education course, she decided she wanted to pursue a career in nursing. After receiving her degrees, she worked as an RN at Mercer County Hospital, Aledo, IL and Franciscan Hospital, Rock Island, IL. She worked for Vascular & Thoracic Associates before retiring in 2007. For more than 40 years, Sharon played cards with the same group of friends she and Gary knew from high school. Once a month her card club group would meet, play cards, laugh, and enjoy each other’s company. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling and above all else, spending time with her family. Sharon was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Milan, IL for more than 20 years, prior to moving to Florida. She attended Our Lady of the Angels in Lakewood Ranch, Florida.

Sharon is survived by four children, Scott Damewood, Cathy (Mark) Davis, Pam (Kent) Ringquist, all of Lakewood Ranch, FL and Mike (Melissa) Damewood of Elmhurst, IL; ten grandchildren, Chase, Adam, Sam, Suzanne, Max, and Charlotte Damewood; Erika and Sydney Davis; Nolan and Cole Ringquist; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Barbara Cheesbro.

Visitation will be 1:30 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. with the Service to follow at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West Bradenton, FL 34209. Graveside Service will be at a later date at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida.
