Sherrye Archer

Sherrye Lee Allen Archer, a shining light of joy and optimism to all who knew her, passed away June 24, 2024. Sherrye was born in Nashville, TN July 28, 1950 to Betty Claire Gutherie Allen and the late Douglas Allen.

Sherrye was a dedicated teacher and began her career teaching history and physical education in Melbourne, Florida. After moving to Tampa with her husband, Paul, she taught PE at Robles, Mintz and Stowers elementary schools. Known as Coach Archer to generations of students, she retired in 2017 but continued to volunteer. Her fellow teachers still talk about her wonderfully organized field day events, her "100 year old lady" alter ego, her" above and beyond" work with Safety Patrols and with the bus drivers and monitors at daily
dismissal.

In her free time, Sherrye enjoyed family reunions in Nashville, cruising the high seas with Paul, visiting with friends, exercising and making more friends at the YMCA, pampering her various cats and simultaneously playing games on her tablet while watching TV's game show channel.

A lover of all things Disney, Sherrye and Paul visited Disney World so often, they even lived nearby after retirement. Their final home in Sun City Center brought endless sunset golf cart
rides, visits to her favorite cafe and, of course, widened her already extensive circle of friends.

Sherrye loved spending time with family, friends and especially her students. But she was happiest sharing everyday life with her beloved soulmate of 35 years, Paul Archer.

In addition to Paul, Sherrye leaves behind her mother, Betty Claire, Nashville TN, her sister, Sandra Lynn Wilson, niece, Carmen Leah Robinette (Jerry), nephew, Jason Allan Ojena, Dallas, TX, treasured aunt, Jean Allen, uncle Jim Allen, brothers in law John Archer (Lyn), Ed Tyra, sisters in law Kathleen Wolfgram (Steven), Fran Padgett (Lee), and numerous cousins in her large extended family.

In lieu of a funeral, Brown & Sons, Bradenton, Florida is taking care of cremation. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 9715 56th St N, Temple Terrace, FL 33617 on Friday, July 26 at 11am. A reception will follow. All Sherrye's friends, colleagues and former students are welcome to attend.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Sherrye's name to CancerCare, 275 Seventh Av, NY, NY 10001, www.cancercare.org
