Shirley Radford

Shirley Frances Radford, age 69, was born December 17, 1954, in Copperhill, Tennessee. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in Ellenton, Florida, on December 4, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and unforgettable memories.

Shirley was the oldest daughter of 10 children. She enlisted in the Army when she was 17 and entered service on October 1, 1973. She served her country in an administrative role until she developed a service-related disability, which resulted in an honorable discharge on July 26, 1983.

Shirley then studied to become an LPN and worked in Labor and Delivery at Mountainside Hospital in Jasper, GA. In 1998, she moved to Colorado and began her career at Rose Medical Center L&D as an OB technician. She advanced her career by obtaining an Associate's Degree RN. She remained in L&D and was involved with hundreds of deliveries. The hospital recognized outstanding nurses by awarding "Apples". The apple tokens were given by patients that Shirley had taken care of, and she received hundreds of these. In 2016, she moved to Florida, where she retired.

Shirley loved Jesus Christ and being part of God's church. She had a big heart filled with loving-kindness. She had a way of making everyone she met feel special. She was especially good with children and would use her love to "Shirley-fy" them. She embraced life with warmth and kindness. She never knew a stranger. She was fun-loving and had many interests, from shopping to gardening. She loved watching the Packers play football and was known for her "TD shots". She loved all types of music, and she loved to dance.

Shirley was a deeply caring wife, sister, and aunt whose love and kindness touched the hearts of everyone in her life. She is survived by her spouse Nanci Martens of Ellenton, FL, Sisters: Dorothy Mayfield of Morganton, GA, Beverly and husband Ron Schaub of Columbia, PA, Karen and husband Roy Blackston of Blue Ridge, GA. Brothers: Jerry and wife Wanda Patterson of Blue Ridge, GA; Kenneth Patterson of Blue Ridge, GA; Joel and wife Tammy Stepp of Bradenton, FL. She also had numerous nieces and nephews whom she cherished. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev Havern and Dollie Patterson-Stepp; Stepfather, Rev Earnest Stepp, Brothers Charles, and Jimmy Patterson; and Sister, Martha Patterson.

Shirley was cremated, and there will be a "Celebration of her Life" on the beach. Date to be announced.
