Spotlight on Education: Southeast Program Awarded TV Equipment

BRADENTON – Southeast High School’s Television Production program (SETV) received a TriCaster 40 multi-camera, live video studio from NewTek during a special presentation on Monday. A representative from NewTek made the presentation and congratulated SETV for being a top 10 finalist in NewTek’s national video competition.

The competition was ultimately won by Centennial High School of Peoria, AZ, which received the grand-prize of the company’s smart car HD mobile production vehicle, the world’s smallest HD mobile production vehicle. The nine runners up will all receive the TriCaster 40 multi-camera production system.

In the competition sponsored by NewTek, a communications company that focuses on sporting events and live entertainment, Southeast was selected as a finalist from among hundreds of entries based on a 500-word essay explaining how the school would integrate the production vehicle into their sports production programs. All of the 10 finalists then produced a video demonstrating why their school should take home the grand prize.

In addition to Southeast High in Bradenton, the runners up include Arvada West High School, Arvada, CO; Grissom High School, Huntsville, AL; Harmony High School, Harmony, FL; James Logan High School, Union City, CA; Montclair State University, Montclair, NJ; Palisades Charter High School, Los Angeles, CA; South Kitsap High School, Port Orchard, WA; and University of Texas-Pan American, Edinburg, TX.

“The Tri-Caster 40 will be a tremendous addition to our program,” said SETV Director and Instructor Mike Sanders. “Finishing in the top 10 of this national contest, which included universities as well as high schools, shows the kind of quality our students are producing on a regular basis. I am proud of everyone that made this accomplishment possible.”
