In Loving Memory of Stephen L. Bergquist July 30, 1954 - April 7, 2026, Stephen “Steve” L. Bergquist, a longtime building contractor and beloved member of the Anna Maria Island community, passed away on April 7, 2026.

Steve’s roots on the island ran deep, beginning with his grandparents, who built a family home there in 1947. After decades of family memories at the “beach,” Steve made the island his permanent home in the mid-90s, alongside his parents. A true outdoorsman, Steve embraced every aspect of island living. He was an avid boater and a familiar face in local fishing tournaments, often found expertly throwing a cast net.

Beyond his skills as a builder, Steve was known for his "killer" hot sauce—a craft he took great pride in and loved sharing with others. To those who knew him, Steve was the man in the well-known van, always ready with a kind word or a helping hand. He was a generous soul who never hesitated to show up for those who needed him.

Steve is survived by his father, Richard, and his wife Gayle of Bradenton; his brother, Dick, and his partner Dorothy of Polk City; his nieces, Noel (Josh) of Lakeland and Molly of Ft. Myers; and his life partner, Bev, along with their special Christine. He was preceded in death by his mother, Madge. His presence on the island will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many "island folks" whose lives he touched.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers please plant a tree, make a donation to a food bank or charity of your choice in his memory.

Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory, 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209, is in charge of arrangements.
