Add Emergency Contact Info to Your Florida I.D.

Posted

BRADENTON — October is emergency contact month. Did you know you can add emergency contact information to your current Florida driver's license or state-issued I.D. card? You can and it's free.

By adding emergency contacts you provide law enforcement access to whom you personally want notified in the event of an accident or medical emergency.  The service was created by Christine Olson, the founder of TIFF's Initiative: To Inform Families First.

Olson created this service for the state of Florida in memory of her daughter, Tiffiany Marie Olson, who was struck and killed by a drunk driver in 2005. At that time, law enforcement had only the information printed on the driver's license. As a result, it took over 6 hours for Olson to be notified despite being only 15 minutes away.

Visit Olson's website at www.toinformfamiliesfirst.org to learn more. In honor of Emergency Contact Month, the service is being celebrated by the Skyway Bridge illuminating purple in honor of Olson's daughter.
