Sugg Middle School to Host

Posted

Bradenton, FL -- As a perfect lead in to Earth Day, the Manatee County School District's Energy and Recycling Department will present the "1st Annual Manatee County Schools Recycling Round-Up" tomorrow, Wednesday, April 21, 2010, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sugg Middle School.

Located at 3801 59th St. W. in Bradenton, Sugg Middle was chosen as the site for this event because it has collected more recyclable material than any other school in the district during the last two years.

Here are some of the highlights you'll find at tomorrow's Recycling Round-Up:

  • An attempt to better the one-day Guinness World Record for collecting plastic bottles.
  • Learning opportunities, activities and sponsor giveaways for students.
  • A shower head exchange sponsored by the Manatee County Water Conservation Department in which students and staff can turn in an old shower head for a new low-flow shower head.
  • Shoe recycling through "Shoes for the Cure."
  • A hybrid recycling truck on display courtesy of Waste Pro of Florida, Inc.

Additional sponsors include the Manatee County Recycling Department, Publix, Republic Services, Keep Manatee Beautiful and the new home-town baseball team, the Bradenton Marauders.

For more information, please contact Jennifer Malloy at 737-0483 or Patrick Gallagher at 704-5382 of the district's Energy and Recycling Department.
