BRADENTON - At Tuesday's Manatee School Board meeting, Superintendent Rick Mills announced that the district now expects positive financial results for both the recently ended school year as well as 2014/15.

Mills advised that a balanced budget and "substantiative" surplus in its fund balance are anticipated for the 2013-2014 school year, as well as a $11.5 million fund balance for next year, in a district that has experienced a constant barrage of dire financial news over the last two years.

The new information came to light after the district held a long budget meeting on Friday, said the Superintendent. He added that the district intends to meet the required 3 percent fund balance again for 2014-15.

"I'm very encouraged by these developments," said Mills, who congratulated everyone in the district involved in working on its financial situation. "We've turned a corner in our fiscal stability. I firmly believe that we've restored the fiscal soundness we've been looking for."
