Gainesville, Florida - Suzanne McMullen Alderman passed away on November 18th, 2024, at the age of 78. Suzanne (Sue) was born on February 15, 1946 and raised in Bradenton, Florida. Sue attended Ballard, Jessie P Miller Elementary School, Walker Jr. High School and Manatee High School. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Florida in 1969. She was married to James Frank Alderman on August 23rd, 1969.
Sue was dedicated to many passions over the course of her life. Her biggest passions were nursing, family, dressage and golf. Over the course of her nursing career, she was employed by several local hospitals specializing primarily in cardiac intensive care. She was the author of research articles published in nursing journals. For years she was responsible for the newsletter published by her housing association. She volunteered at homeless shelters and soup kitchens to support her community.
Sue was a dedicated mother, sharing the love of horses with her daughter and the love of golf with her son. After retiring from nursing in 1996 she enjoyed her grandchildren, golf, gardening, crafting, reading, and her summer home in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. Sue and Jim moved to Gainesville, Fl in 2017 to be closer to family and Sue became an active member in the local Women's Golf Leagues. Sue was a past member of the Manatee Mothers of Twins Club; the United States Dressage Federation; the Buffalo Creek, Manatee, and River Run ladies golf leagues; and the Florida State Women's Golf Association. In North Carolina, Sue was a member of the Lake Junaluska Ladies Golf Association where she was the club champion 2007 through 2010, and in 2013. She was predeceased by her parents, Don and Betty McMullen, her sister Kathleen McMullen, and her brother, Clay McMullen. She is survived by her husband Jim; her children, Jennifer (Todd) of Gainesville, Florida, and Ryan (Megan) of Boston, Massachusetts; and her grandchildren Lily, Carley, Carter, and Colton.
Private services will be held at Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery.
