To us at The Local ARTery, the weekend is very important. It's something that we take very seriously, and you should too—because you only live once, and there are no second chances. So join us on a trip around the weekend, and follow our credo: Turn on ... Tune in ... Go out!

The Joel Tatangelo Band

Thursday

9 p.m.

Ace’s Live

4343 Palma Sola Blvd.

Bradenton

Known throughout the American South for his slide-guitar stylings and pop oriented songs, Joel Tatangelo seems to effortlessly carry the rock-n-roll torch in our hectic age of synthetic music. According to the group’s website, “The Joel Tatangelo Band deftly blends Delta blues, swamp soul, power rock and sticky funk to create its own singular brand of Rock & Soul.”

McCabe’s Irish Pub

302 12th Street West (Old Main Street)

Bradenton

A Gentlemen Army is a band that’s really come into their own this year. The 5-piece post-punk act released their 2nd full-length album in March, and performed at the Vans Warped Tour when it rolled through St. Petersburg in August. A Gentlemen Army will be ending this most triumphant year at McCabe’s Irish Pub, in downtown Bradenton, with a quiet [for them] set at what has become their favorite bar.

Dcoy Ducks

5410 Marina Drive

Holmes Beach

Roots rock reggae rockers sowFlo, of Naples, will take the stage at Dcoy Ducks this Saturday. There is no doubt that the group’s modern reggae vibrations will fit right into the element at Ducks, which has come to be regarded as the capital of Jamaican music in Bradenton.

According to the band’s website, “sowFlo was recently voted #1 SouthWest Florida Reggae Band by over 25,000 online voters for the 1st Annual SPOT Magazine Awards. Their newest 5-song EP titled “Rising”, continues their working relationship with producer Joe Records, Grammy-winning engineer Marc Lee, and legendary Paul Fakhourie whose production credits include Bob Marley & The Wailers, Eric Clapton, Lauren Hill, Julian Marley, Damian Marley, Nas & Damian Marley, and Stephen Marley, among many others.” Fans of Sublime, Slightly Stoopid, and Bootleg should not miss this show.
