Edward R. Bilkie, 86, of Bradenton, passed away March 2, 2014. Ed was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Originally from Campbell, Ohio, Ed was a member of the Memorial High School Football Hall of Fame. Ed was also a graduate of and a varsity football player for The Ohio State University, as well as a World War II veteran for the United States Air Force. He worked as an executive for the Chrysler Corporation in Highland Park, Michigan for 37 years. After moving to Bradenton in 1987, Ed became a football booster for Manatee High School, as well as an avid Gator fan.
Ed is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Anna Bilkie, and brother, Lawrence (Mary). He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Judith Yankee Bilkie, brother, Richard (Gail), children: Randy, Rick (Lori), Debbie Walther (Tom), Guy Boitos (Janet), Chris (Corinne), and grandchildren: Amanda Bilkie, Ryan (Amber) and Holly Bilkie, Katie and Troy Walther, Laine and Tessa Boitos, Adeline and Joseph Bilkie, Grace and Jeffrey Andrus-Bilkie.

M.D. Hill, (Butch/Coach “B”), 70, Bradenton, Florida died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at his home. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis, father of Greg of Sarasota, FL and Scott of Evansville, IN; brother to Jessie Carl, Joyce Henry and Olive Sandefur all of Kentucky. He was born in Ohio County on November 9th to J. Carl and Winnie (Pete Tatum) Hill. Butch was an avid lover, participant and mentor of tennis and basketball. He followed his dreams by attending Murray State University and playing for the Racers 1961-66. He attained a B.S./M.S. in education, worked as a tennis/basketball coach and retired as an elementary school principal.
Other interests were real estate and riding his Harley. Butch organized the first tennis complex at the Henderson C.H.S., and expanded the Junior Development City Tennis Program, which mentors and introduces tennis to the children of Henderson. He was a certified USPTA, Level 1 tennis pro and member of the El Conquistador Racquet Club where he spent many “Happy Times” with his wonderful friends. Butch was a faithful member of the West Bradenton Baptist Church and a Christian mentor for the children’s A.W.A.N.A.S. Edward A. Morin, 80, of Northampton, MA and Bradenton, FL, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2014, at his home in Florida after a lengthy illness. Born August 5, 1933, in Northampton, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Arthur J. and Agnes (Lamica) Morin. Ed was a lifetime resident of Northampton until he moved to Florida in 2000 for winter seasons. He attended the former Annunciation School in Florence, graduating from Northampton High School in 1951, where he played on both the football and baseball teams, and was manager of the basketball team. Ed served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953. He was a proud combat veteran of the Korean War, serving as a heavy-mortar operator and attaining the rank of sergeant. He was especially proud to have earned the Combat Infantry Badge.
After returning from military duty, he began his long career in banking at the former Northampton National Bank, attending schools of finance and trust at the School of Banking at Williams College, and the Univ. of Chicago. After twenty-three years at the Northampton National, he took a position as Chief Financial Officer at the Florence Savings Bank in 1978 and was appointed President in 1986. Ed retired in 1995 after a 40-year banking career. Ed was a Life-Member of the Elks, a member of the V.F.W., the American Legion, the Korean War Veterans' Assn., and the 7th Infantry Division Assn. He served for many years on the Finance Committee of the former Sacred Heart Church in Northampton, Mass., where he was also a lector and sang in the choir. He served as Treasurer of the Northampton Forbes Library for over 20 years, and was a member of the Northampton Retirement Board for 21 years.
In his retirement, Ed enjoyed traveling extensively with his wife and friends to numerous countries. An avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, he followed them closely. He also enjoyed spending time with new friends in Florida, golfing, singing in his church choir in FL, reading novels, and attending as many of his family's events as possible. Trips he especially enjoyed were the “Korea Revisit Program” for combat veterans, sponsored jointly by the Korean War Veterans Assn. of Korea and the U. S. Korean War Veterans Assn. Also, in 2011, he was pleased to join a group of veterans and spouses on a 4-day trip to Washington D.C. sponsored by the Northampton Veterans' Association, visiting the Capitol and all of the War Memorials.
Ed is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rose-Marie (Kirouac) Morin; his son, Peter Morin of Bristol, Conn., his daughter, Cam Kelly and her husband, Mike, of Cary, NC, his son, David Morin and his wife, Susan, of Ipswich, Mass., and his son, Scott Morin of Northampton, Mass., as well as his grandchildren, Sean, Ryan and Dana Kelly, and Marc and Andrea Morin. He is also survived by his brothers, Dr. Bernard A. Morin (Barbara) of Charlottesville, VA, and Pierre Morin (Sue Shea) of Savannah, GA., and his sister, Joy Tudryn of Hadley. He was predeceased by his brother, Arthur J. Morin, Jr. (Joyce).
A Mass and Celebration of Ed's Life will be held Friday, March 14th at 3:00 p.m. at the Ss. Peter and Paul the Apostles Church (Chapel), 75th Street in Bradenton. A Funeral Mass and burial will be held in Northampton, Mass. at a later date. Sue Shirley Smith, 53, of Palmetto, FL went to join her Lord and Savior after a long, courageous battle with cancer on March 5, 2014. Sue is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Byron M. Smith III; their daughter, Shelby J. Smith of Palmetto; son, Michael S. Smith and two grandsons, Kolton and Mason (Mimi loves you!) of Millbrook, AL; mother, Mary George Wilson of Wetumpka, AL; brother, Chuck Shirley and his family of Gilbert, SC; sister, Caye Lindsey and family of Millbrook, AL and many other family and special friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Charles Bowen Shirley III and her loving grandparents. Sue was born in Prattville, AL and graduated from Stanhope Elmore High School – Class of 1978. Sue and her family moved to Palmetto FL in 2001 with the plan to be a stay at home Mom, but instead volunteered at and eventually became Bradenton Christian School Elementary school secretary. Sue will be remembered by friends and family for her giving heart, friendliness, beautiful smile and southern drawl. She cherished her friends and family, enjoyed horse related activities, reading, crosswords and being involved in any activity her kids were participating in. Strangers were drawn to Sue and she would talk to them like she had known them forever.
