Thomas Alva Renaud, known to family and friends as Tom, passed away on May 31, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida, at the age of 90. Born on August 13, 1935. Tom grew up in Detroit and attended Detroit McKenzie High School, where he developed the intelligence, practicality, and resourcefulness that would serve him well throughout his life.
He was a man who could fix what was broken, solve problems, and bring humor to nearly any situation. Tom served his country proudly in the Air Force during the Korean War. He served from August 1952 to August 1956 and was honorably discharged. He retired from MI Bell / AT&T after a long career as a Technical Communication Specialist, where his diligence and expertise were valued by colleagues and friends alike. Tom approached his work with professionalism and commitment, and he earned the respect of those around him through years of steady service. His career was a meaningful part of his life, but it was only one expression of the many talents he shared so freely.
Music was one of Tom’s greatest passions. He was a gifted musician who loved sharing his talent and entertaining others, and he found joy in bringing people together through song and performance. Whether in a casual gathering or a special celebration, he had a way of making the moment brighter. His love of music was not only a hobby but also a gift he offered generously to those around him.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 25 years, Judy Griffith-Renaud, who passed away in 2025. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Joanne Cross and Joe Renaud.
He is survived by his sister Bernie and husband Ed Chef Tom is survived by his daughter, Teresa Renaud, and by his daughter Laura Wright and son-in-law Douglas Wright. He is also survived by a loving extended family that includes Morgan Stacey-Haltom and Samuel, as well as Ada Joy Haltom. His family also includes Douglas and Laura Wright’s children and grandchildren, Wayne and Liz Wright, James, Eleanor, Evelyn Wright, Doug Wright and son Joddy Wright, Gordon Wright, Caleb and Emily Wright, and Gwen and Theo Wright.
Each of them held a special place in his life, and he took joy in the growing family that surrounded him. Tom’s life was one of warmth, humor, and steadfast love. He will be remembered for the way he made others laugh, for the music he shared, and for the practical help he offered.
