Thomas P. Murphy

Thomas P. Murphy, age 92, of Bradenton, passed away on November 12, 2022.

Born in Freeport, Illinois April 13, 1930, Tom grew up in Stockton, Illinois where he married his high school sweetheart, Colleen O'Connor in 1952. They were married for 65 years until her death in 2017. Tom and Colleen moved to Bradenton in 1992 and later became residents of Freedom Village. Tom was a Veteran of the US Army having retired as a Lt. Colonel after 20 years of active service. He served two tours in Korea in 1950-51 and again in 1956-57, was a graduate of the Defense Language Institute and the Command and General Staff College. He then worked an additional twenty-four years before retiring from Oscar Mayer Food Corporation.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Catholic Church and later Saint Peter & Paul the Apostles Catholic Church and the IMG Country Club. Tom could be seen walking in the mornings and then sitting in front of his residence at Freedom Village greeting people coming and going. He was an avid golfer and baseball fan, especially for the Chicago Cubs.

He is survived by his son, Mike (Nancy) Murphy and two grandsons Jeff (Cheyenne), Dan (Katie) Murphy and two great-grandsons, Lukas and Jackson.

Graveside Services will be at 10:30 AM, Monday, November 28 at Sarasota National Cemetery. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
