Timothy Lee Gatrell, known affectionately to friends and family as Tim, was a beacon of strength and compassion. Born on January 20, 1944, in Massillon, Ohio, he brought joy and wisdom to those around him throughout his remarkable life. On January 6, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida, Tim was called to his eternal home after a brief illness, surrounded by the love of his family.
Tim's life was filled with the love of his cherished family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Gatrell, and his loving children, daughter Nicole Samson, and son and daughter-in-law Steve and Erica Gatrell. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren Cody, Leif, London, Alex, and Phoenix. Tim's caring brother Leslie Gatrell and sister Marilyn Drobney will remember him fondly, as will all those whose lives he touched.
Tim's journey to heaven was preceded by his dear sisters Lorena White and Phyllis Hoffman, and his brothers Richard, Carl, and Gerald Gatrell, along with his parents, Lawrence and Flo Gatrell.
An alumnus with an Associate's Degree in Business Management, Tim's professional life was marked by his commitment as a Safety and Security Compliance Officer at Detroit Diesel. His colleagues respected him for his intelligence and passion for ensuring a safe working environment. As a young man, his athleticism shone through when he competed as a Golden Glove Boxer, an experience that instilled in him discipline and a fighting spirit.
Tim carried his Christian faith proudly, living life as an embodiment of Christ's teachings of love, kindness, and generosity. He was a man who found solace in the written word, both reading and writing poems and books that reflected his understanding of life's complexities. His talents were many, and his ability to fix and create was a testament to his handiness.
His interests were diverse, ranging from spending quality time with family, to the tranquility of fishing, the excitement of football, and the joy of being with his pet dogs. Tim also had a unique flair for fashion, particularly hats and shoes, each one reflecting a facet of his multifaceted personality.
Albert Einstein once said, "Try not to become a man of success, but rather try to become a man of value." Tim was the epitome of such a man-valuable to all for his wisdom, his steadfast support, and his boundless love. A man of integrity, Tim's impact reached far beyond his immediate circle. He will be remembered for his unwavering support, his ability to listen and offer advice, and his constant encouragement to those he loved.
It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Tim-a man whose life was well-lived and well-loved. As we honor Tim's memory, let us cherish the lessons he taught us through his example-to live with purpose, to care deeply for our family and friends, and to always reach out with a kind heart and an open hand. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the countless lives he touched with his generosity and spirit.
Rest in peace, dear Timothy, with all our love...until we meet again.
