Manatee County Commission candidate and East County Fire Commissioner Tony Barrett was arrested again on Tuesday, June 30, charged with violating the conditions of his pretrial release stemming from his domestic battery arrest, which took place roughly two weeks ago.
According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office online inmate records, Barrett was booked into the Manatee County Jail and was reportedly still in custody as of Tuesday evening. The charge indicates authorities allege Barrett intentionally violated a condition of his release. As of publication, no additional details were immediately available regarding the nature of the alleged violation.
Barrett, whose legal name is Phillip Anthony Barrett, was first arrested on June 18 on a misdemeanor domestic battery "touch or strike" charge following an alleged altercation involving an ex-girlfriend with whom he resides. According to records obtained by TBT, Barrett is accused of pulling the victim's hair and striking her head against the floor multiple times. The MCSO report noted that both Barrett and the victim had visible injuries following the altercation.
Following his initial arrest, Barrett told TBT he had no plans to suspend his campaign for the Republican nomination for the Manatee County Commission District 6 at-large seat.
"This will not define me," Barrett said at the time. "I will continue to run."
According to his campaign biography, Barrett is a U.S. Army veteran, a longtime Manatee County resident, a real estate broker, and the founder of Heroes Welcome Home, a nonprofit serving veterans. He also serves as an elected East Manatee Fire Commissioner, a position he has held since 2022. His current term expires in November 2026.

How many arrests does it take for him to drop out of the race? Someone with his temper should not be representing people unless they are professional wrestlers. Aha! I think I just found the perfect vocation for him. Code name: Tony the Tiger. Grrr!
