SARASOTA — Florida Studio Theatre will launch its 2024 Stage III Series with Ugly Lies the Bone by Lindsey Ferrentino. The play follows Jess, a veteran returning to civilian life after three tours in Afghanistan.

Set in Titusville, FL, Jess grapples with severe burns suffered in combat, and the challenges of returning to her recently transformed hometown. The play explores Jess's use of computer-simulated therapy as she tries to mend the wounds of her past.

"We have wanted to produce Ugly Lies the Bone for years now," said FST Producing Artistic Director Richard Hopkins. “This play is filled with hope and asks important questions about rebuilding your life and relationships."

“Anyone who hears Jess’ story will hopefully appreciate the vast journey a veteran has to undertake, not just for physical recovery, but for mental, emotional, and personal healing,” said director Kristin Clippard.

Called “A raw and inescapably moving” by The New York Observer and “Transformative and exhilarating” by Theater Mania, Ugly Lies the Bone opens on January 17 in FST’s Bowne’s Lab. Click here for ticket and schedule information.
