More than 600 people attended the Welcome Home Parade upon the veteran’s arrival

SARASOTA — On Wednesday, dozens of local veterans received a patriotic homecoming after spending a day in Washington, D.C., visiting memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice. When the veterans returned home from the Honor Flight, hundreds of cheering community members waved flags, held handmade signs, and shouted words of gratitude as the veterans entered SRQ’s Allegiant Terminal.

“It was an incredibly moving experience to see our community come together to honor these heroes,” said Shawn McCray, General Manager at Veteran Air, which sponsored the event. “We were proud to help give these men and women the recognition and celebration they’ve earned.”

Members of the Veteran Air team joined families, volunteers, and supporters throughout the terminal to welcome each veteran home with applause and handshakes. The event, organized by Southwest Florida Honor Flight, serves as an emotional end to a full day of remembrance and reflection in the nation’s capital.

“Seeing the smiles, tears, and overwhelming emotion during the parade was a reminder of what this community stands for: gratitude, unity, and respect,” added Michael Nyhan, a second-time Veteran Air Guardian and Technician.

Along with offering logistical assistance, Veteran Air made a $3,000 donation to the Honor Flight Organization. This gift helps ensure more local Veterans have the opportunity to participate in these trips, visiting the national memorials that honor their service and sacrifice.
