Walter Alexander White

Walter Alexander White, 97, of Parrish, FL, passed away on September 30, 2022.

Walter was born on June 27, 1925, in Pittsburgh, PA and he moved to the Sarasota/Bradenton area in 1973. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, retiring in 1969. Walter worked for the State of Florida as a counselor for more than 10 years and he worked for the Lighthouse Foundation for the Blind in Bradenton for many years. He was a member of the Manasota Track Club for over 40 years, he loved to play golf and enjoyed running. He was a member of the Osprey Opera community and the Bradenton Players Club Community. He and his wife, Liz loved to travel. They have been all over the globe. Their favorite place was London, England which they visited every January for 20 years. His love for running and the running community allowed him to stay active for over 50 years. He won his age group in the Sarasota Senior Games giving him the opportunity to go to the Louisville Senior Games in 2007, placing Bronze in his age group. He again won his age group (over 90) in the Sarasota Senior Games. He went to the Minneapolis Senior Games in 2015.

He moved to Freedom Village in 2013 where he embraced the amenities and the community. He was active in many of the social activities, such as happy hours, picnic dinners and keeping the residents informed of all of the upcoming events.

Walter is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Elizabeth T.; he is survived by his 4 children, Laura W. (Donald) Whalen of Parrish, FL, M.M. Alex (Gail) White of Tampa, FL, Roger R.A. (Veronica) White of Round Rock, TX and Alan A.A. (Ellen) White of Phoenix, AZ; his 7 grandchildren, Justin Whalen of Chicago, IL, Sarah (Mike) of Alpharetta, GA, Adam White of New York City, NY, Samantha White of Flagstaff, AZ, Michella White of Phoenix, AZ, Cari (Chris) Koch of Houston, TX and Bradley White of Scottsdale, AZ.

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 AM with the Services to follow at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel. Graveside Services with Military Honors will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 12, 2022, at Sarasota National Cemetery.

Walter loved life and enjoyed being part of it.
