Want to Have More Say in Manatee County Land Use?

Posted

MANATEE COUNTY – Manatee County is accepting applications for the planning commission, an important advisory board that hears presentation for various land use applications and makes recommendations to the board of county commissioners. No special experience or education is required. If you're a registered voter in Manatee County, you can apply.

The Manatee County Planning Commission is composed of seven members who are appointed by the county commission. The two expiring terms will be filled by a BOCC appointee for a four-year term. The group meets on the second Thursday of each month at 9 a.m. in the first floor chambers of Manatee County Administrative Building and commissioners are given a $60 stipend per meeting.

Applicants must be registered voters in Manatee County. While no particular expertise is required, candidates with experience or training in planning, engineering, environmental science and the development industry may be given additional consideration for an appointment.

Members of the planning commission cannot be employed by the county or be a member of another land development-related advisory board serving unincorporated Manatee County.

Applications are due October 3 and may be found online at www.mymanatee.org/advisory_boards. For more information, call Bobbi Roy, 748-4501 ext. 6878.
