Weekend Adventures in Bradenton: June 28-30, 2013

BRADENTON – The hot weather is here, but so are the cool events. This weekend marks the 5th annual River Regatta on the Manatee River in Palmetto. You can learn how to get that perfect nature photo at Emerson Point Preserve and the Marauders are back in town beginning Saturday. Grab your captain's hat, your camera and that old ball glove, it's time for a Weekend Adventure in Bradenton!

The 2013 River Regatta race will be held this Saturday! The Regatta Pointe Marina hosts the 5th annual River Regatta. All races are held on the Manatee River.

This regatta will be governed by the current Racing Rules of Sailing and the West Florida PHRF Class Rules. Participants without a PHRF certificate will be assigned a rating at the discretion of the Regatta Chair. Its open to all Sailboats.

Classes include Spinnaker, Non-Spinnaker, True Cruiser, Pocket Cruiser, Racer Cruiser, and Multihull.

Want to learn how to get the "perfect shot" of a busy bee or a floating butterfly? Learn how to anticipate insect behavior with nature photographer Dotty Motta in order to plan, and capture, gorgeous photographs of these creatures Saturday at Emerson Point Preserve

After that, put your skills to the test in the field to shoot the preserve's dragonflies, butterflies, beetles, and bees. Program suitable for participants age 13 and older. Reservations are required. Please call 941-742-5757 ext. 9.

The Marauders currently stand at 4-1 in the second half and are hoping to grab a 2013 playoff spot. Despite a slow start, the club is in first place in its division. Both of the Marauders’ playoff appearances in 2010 and 2011 have come by winning the second half title.

The Marauders are home at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, 5 p.m. Sunday (Sunday games in the 2nd half will all start at 5 p.m. as opposed to 1 p.m.) and 6:30 p.m. Monday to take on the Palm Beach Cardinals. 

Saturday is “Hockey Night” presented by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Sunday features $1 tickets and $1 hotdogs. Baseball card team sets of the 2013 Marauders will be given out at the game Monday.
