BRADENTON -- The weather is still hot, but don't let that turn you into a couch potato! Get out for a stroll with Manatee County Natural Resources' latest installment of Families Flock Together at Emerson Point. Root on some very special athletes as the Miracle League of Manasota kicks of their season at Longwood Run Park, or get out to the Palmetto Public Library for some Spanish culture as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. It's time for a weekend adventure in Bradenton!

The Miracle League of Manasota will kick off their season this Saturday afternoon. The league is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing an opportunity for all children to play baseball, regardless of their ability.

For the 14,000 school-aged children with disabilities in Sarasota and Manatee counties, the Miracle League of Manasota has built a synthetically-surfaced baseball field with all the requisite amenities at Longwood Park, just off University Boulevard (map).

The League serves children from both Manatee and Sarasota Counties, allowing children challenged by any form of disability to finally be empowered to enjoy the thrill of baseball, regardless of their ability to play. There will be three games starting at 8:15 a.m. 9:35 a.m. and 11:35 a.m., respectively.

Get ready to explore the microscopic world of Emerson Point! Join Naturalist Aedan for a hike through some of the different habitats of Emerson, making field observations and collecting samples.

Then, head back to the classroom where we will get up close to some tiny critters. Come see how all the little things are part of the big picture.

Program suitable for all ages. Reservations are required. Please call 941-742-5757 ext. 4. Emerson Point Preserve is located at 5801 17th Street West in Palmetto.

Join the Palmetto Friends of the Library on Saturday, September 21, 2013 starting at 2:00 p.m. for a program celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

Professional dancers Souhad and Tess Chawi will present an Argentine Culture Tango Show, performing and teaching the exciting South American dance that originated over 100 years ago.

The event is free and seating (and dance floor space!) will be available on a first come, first serve basis. There is no advance registration required.

The Friends are a support organization for Manatee County’s Palmetto Branch Library. Monies raised by the Friends go toward programs and services that tax dollars alone cannot provide.

The Palmetto Branch Library is located at 923 6th Street West in Palmetto, Florida. For more information, please call the library at 941-722-3333.
