Weekend Adventures: Labor Day Weekend!

BRADENTON - It’s Labor Day Weekend, and there’s plenty of entertainment to go around. The Marauders make their final home stand for the 2013 season on Thursday (with an N’ Sync member in tow) and Saturday. On Labor Day morning, G.T. Bray Park is hosting the 21st Annual Canes Cross Country Classic 5K & 1K. That afternoon, Aces Live will have a musical benefit for the medical needs of 4 year-old Davien Martinez. See the Marauders for the last time at McKechnie this year, get your run on, and take part in charity and great live music at the same time; it’s time for a Labor Day Weekend Adventure!

'N Sync's Chris Kirkpatrick

The Marauders will play their last home games for the 2013 season on Thursday and Saturday, both against the Fort Myers Miracle. Chris Kirkpatrick of N’ Sync fame, who shared the stage with his boy band members for a brief reunion performance for Sunday’s MTV VMAs, will be at McKechnie Field on Thursday to sign autographs and throw out the first pitch of the game. Kirkpatrick will be present until 8:45 p.m.

If you think N’ Sync back on your TV and a band member at your local baseball stadium are all the boy band-related activity you’re going to get for August, think again. After the end of Saturday’s Marauders game, stay for boy band karaoke at McKechnie’s Kona Bar! Saturday is also Fan Appreciation Night, with giveaways handed to random rows of fans throughout the course of the game. It’s also Tobacco Free Night on Saturday, so remember to leave your cancer sticks in your vehicle. Fireworks will follow the end of the game.

The 21st Annual Canes Cross Country Classic 5k and 1k is set to run at G.T. Bray Park on Labor Day morning. Runners of both races will go through grass, dirt, asphalt and trails to get to the finish line. A map of the course can be viewed here.

Members of the community will be coming together Monday afternoon to raise medical funds for Davien Martinez, the 4 year-old who was struck in the head by a stray bullet in

late July. Ace’s Live will be hosting live music from noon until 6, so come out with family and friends and enjoy good live music for a good cause.
