Dean Johanesen
Cafe in the Park

Join Cafe in the Park as they say farewell to the Sarasota community after 10 years. The cafe and music venue has been a staple in the Payne Park area and has welcomed musical guests all over.  Their final guest will be a local favorite, Dean Johanesen.

Dean Johanesen is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from New York. He has resided and performed in several US states, but currently calls Sarasota home. Johanesen's passion for gypsy jazz music in the vein of Django Reinhardt has put him on a musical path focused on stories of old times, placed in a backdrop of gypsy swing, a style that he has coined ""circus swing."" Throughout his career, Johanesen has shared bills with notable musicians such as Robby Krieger (formerly of the Doors), Donovan Frankenreiter, Martha Wainwright, Howard Jones, Steve Forbert, John Waite, and Peter Mulvey. Join Dean at Cafe in the Park. No cover.

Always check for updates each week due to inclement weather.

About the venue:

Located in Payne Park, downtown Sarasota, Cafe in the Park captures the spirit of a quintessential urban cafe terrace. It's the perfect place for a great coffee, a fresh sandwich, and live music. The family-friendly spot has menu selections of healthy cafe eats.

The Birdwatchers
Fogartyville
Friday - 7:15 p.m.

The Birdwatchers are a unique acoustic trio who specialize in an equally particular instrument: the ukulele. Kim Bjerga, Clark Holmes, and Andy Nufer have carved out a niche for themselves in their local music scene, and for good reason. Their tight, three-part harmonies, combined with interestingly composed arrangements are refreshingly diverse, both in musicianship and content. With various ukulele ranges (tenor, baritone, and bass ukulele, as well as guitar), the three have managed to produce a wide, varied sound, and with an equally varied set list, The Birdwatchers are bridging musical gaps for all ages and ears.

If a step away from the monotonous and mundane sounds like what’s missing, then perhaps it’s time for a little R&R. The Birdwatchers provide that and more, with a refreshing, unique sound that revolves around ukulele instrumentation and three-part harmonies, and caters to ears and hearts of all ages. Far from a gimmick, this talented trio consistently delivers wholesome, authentic, and genuine music, blending classics from a bygone era with modern, charming numbers and unique original tunes. Grab a drink, sit back, relax, and prepare to get served.”

“FUNsician” Kirk Jones from Alabama, along with country rock duo Vincent and Norine Mungo from Tampa, will open the show with their own take on ukulele playing.

The Currywurst Food Truck will be serving food beginning at 6:30 p.m.
