Weekend Sounds: April 4-6

Posted

BRADENTON — It's another weekend, and you know what that means. If you guessed another great lineup of local, talented musicians in Manatee, Sarasota, and surrounding counties, you would be correct. Check out The Bradenton Times Weekend Sounds to see what bands you can catch at your favorite venues.

Denitia
Fogartyville
Thursday - 7:00 p.m.

To Denitia, music is a mirror.

The songs she sings give audiences an opportunity to see themselves in her and connect over shared experiences and emotions. “We’re all people just trying to live our lives,” Denitia says, “and there’s so much of it that we have in common. ” But Denitia also wants her music to give audiences an opportunity to connect with themselves. “If a song of mine helps someone reckon with their own emotional life or their own experiences, or it helps them experience empathy or open their mind or expand, that’s what I’m trying to do,” she adds. “I’m trying to make music I love that moves people while just being myself.”

Her music has been featured in the films Nanny and The Invitation, as well as in the series Better Things (FX), Broad City (Comedy Central), Dear White People (Netflix), Shrinking (Apple TV+), and The Terminal List (Amazon). She has toured extensively with the Black Opry Revue; been invited to perform at the National Museum of African American Music and the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville; and shared stages with Amythyst Kiah, Joy Oladokun, and Allison Russell, among other artists. In 2023, Denitia earned one of five spots in a residency hosted by the Black Opry and WXPN, was named to Rissi Palmer’s Color Me Country class, and was one of three artists selected for CMT and mtheory’s Equal Access cohort.

The momentum continued in 2024. Denitia is one of CMT’s 2024 Next Women of Country and was named an artist to watch by the Nashville Scene. She made her Grand Ole Opry debut and opened shows for Mickey Guyton.

Avery Anna with Tana Matz & Emmy Moyen
Big Top Brewing
Friday - 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

From the desert to the mountains, Warner Music Nashville singer/songwriter Avery Anna grew up chasing the Arizona sunsets. She started singing at 10 years old, quickly picking up the guitar and piano, but it wasn’t until she started her TikTok channel that she realized her full potential. Hopping in a bathtub for acoustics, Avery began uploading covers – and her videos blew up overnight.

Her repertoire spans classic country artists such as Willie Nelson and Patsy Cline to modern acts like Taylor Swift and Kelsea Ballerini. Now with 1.4 million followers and almost 27 million likes, Avery Anna is ready to share her own music with the world. The 2022 YouTube Artist on the Rise has released four tracks, and her single “Narcissist” is already making a statement. A SiriusXM Highway Find, the song has landed on major playlists such as Spotify’s New Music Friday, Apple Music’s Country Risers and has over 86 million global streams. The Flagstaff native has just begun to take her music on the road, opening for acts such as Josh Turner, Martina McBride, & Parmalee as well as playing overseas for C2C Festival in London. This is just the beginning for Avery, as she steps out of the bathtub and into the spotlight.

The Cold Stares
Cottonmouth
Friday - 7:00 p.m.

For almost ten years, The Cold Stares had toured the world relentlessly as a duo, blowing away audiences across the US and Europe with a fierce, blistering live show that belied their
bare bones, guitar-and-drums setup. In 2023 the band began embracing a whole new kind of chemistry and launched into their next chapter, adding a third member and channeling the classic
power trio sound they grew up on with their explosive acclaimed album, “Voices.”

The Cold Stares have created a buzz in the music world that has landed them on the road with the likes of Joe Bonamassa, Larkin Poe, Rival Sons, Reignwolf, Spoon, Grand Funk Railroad, and Thievery Corp, among many others. American Songwriter praised the group’s “hard-won commitment, honesty, and intensity,” while No Depression hailed their sound as a “roots rocking firestorm,” and tunes from their albums turned up everywhere from ESPN, Dodge, Chevy and TNT to the hit video game Cyberpunk 2077.
