BRADENTON — It's another weekend, and you know what that means. If you guessed another great lineup of local, talented musicians in Manatee, Sarasota, and surrounding counties, you would be correct. Check out The Bradenton Times Weekend Sounds to see what bands you can catch at your favorite venues.

Dana Lawrence
Origin Craft Beer & Pizza
Friday - 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Kettle of Fish has been led by singer and principal songwriter Dana Lawrence since its inception in 2001. Current members include Thorson Moore returning on guitar (formerly with Devon Allman), Chris Guertin returns to bass duties and vocals after a hiatus. Guertin was a member of the Big Kahuna Band and Musical Director on Princess Cruises. Pat McDonald on drums (toured with Charlie Daniels for 20 years). Robin Swenson on keys (Four Seasons, Aretha Franklin). Other honorary members include Kevin Miller, Bob Dielman and Lei Stanhope on guitars, Garrett Dawson on drums/percussion, Andy Wallace or Matthew Frost on keys, Jimmie Fadden (Nitty Gritty Dirt Band) on drums and harmonicas and other friends from the road.

Lawrence covers music from 60's Beach Rock, Acoustic, Alternative, and Americana.

Ben Prestage
Cottonmouth

Prestage cut his teeth performing in Florida fish camps, biker bars and tourist traps. After a stint as busker/street performer on historic Beale Street in Memphis, TN Ben emerged as one of world's top one-man-bands. After a releasing a dozen albums, and touring across the US and more than a dozen countries, Ben Prestage continues to create music that "soars like a swamp hawk and wallows like an old bull gator."

Billy Lyon Band

Billy Lyon started in 2002 as the lead singer of a rock band based in Donegal, Ireland. After spending 6+ years playing in Europe, Billy established himself as a singer and guitarist in Sarasota, performing at corporate events, trade shows, conventions, galas, weddings, private parties, festivals, charity events, theme parks, and of course, local pubs and bars. Billy Lyon has opened for internationally known groups, including The Undertones, Pat McManus, and Johnny Gallagher.

The Billy Lyon Band is Sarasota’s premiere live rock band performing across Florida to audiences ranging from intimate groups of 50 to significant events with over 6,000 attendees. Depending on your needs, you can book the Billy Lyon Band as a solo act, duo, trio, or a full band playing musical genres ranging from oldies, classic rock, and pop hits to jazz, Motown, blues, and country. Danielle Mohr
Waterside Plaza

Danielle Mohr has been making music as long as she can remember. Born and raised in Dunedin, this native Floridian is an acoustic guitarist, vocalist, and soul-pop singer/songwriter has made a notable name for herself in the music scene. She tours regionally and nationally. Most notably, she has performed at Festivals such as the Safety Harbor Song Fest and the Gasparilla Music Festival

​At one of her live shows you can expect to hear clever and thoughtful lyrics dance playfully over her eclectic guitar melodies. She incorporates a looping pedal into her live performance to create layered tracks rich with harmonies and driving rhythm. Natural talent flows freely through Danielle as she artfully engages her audience to feel the music while enjoying her songs. She puts her mark on all music she plays, be they originals or covers.​

Actual Bank Robbers

Actual Bank Robbers is a 5-piece pop-rock band based out of Tampa, FL. Comprised of musicians who met while working at a theme park, the band’s carefree Top 40 show has become a favorite of Tampa audiences. Their debut album Checklist was released in 2016 and earned them a spot in Nashville’s Whiskey Jam, a headlining show at Busch Gardens Tampa, a finalist slot in Hard Rock Tampa’s Hard Rock Rising competition, opening act slots for acts such as Magic Giant and Wheatus, two performances at St. Peterburg’s Jannus Live, and features in several online publications. Playing hits from a wide span of artists ranging from Nirvana to the Spice Girls, the band’s high energy pop-rock show has traveled the country, and continues to entertain audiences of all ages.

The Shaelyn Band

The Shaelyn Band is a Florida based band capable of shifting from classic soul blues and funk to rock. They are fronted by Shaelyn (aka Shae) Mulberry, a singer and poet who can wail like Joyce Kennedy, charm like Aretha Franklin, and soliloquize like Erykah Badu. With their highly energized live show, The Shaelyn Band is poised to take on the music industry.

The band formed in 2020, after drummer and music director, Tim Mulberry met lead guitar player Erik Guess in Jacksonville, Florida. The lineup quickly began to take shape by adding bass player, Curtis Harris and background vocalist, Mark Barner.

On September 9th, 2022, The Shaelyn Band released their self titled album “The Shaelyn Band”. The album delivers an array of emotions with its various songs of experience like, “Good Time”, “Always You”, “Stay Home Love” and “Just Can’t Leave” to name a few. Listeners are able to dance their cares away, reclaim their lives and destiny, as well as receive encouragement and take a moment to simply reflect on the joys of love and life.

Now with the new release of their second album, Juke Joint, The Shaelyn Band is continuing to move and groove the hearts of the music lovers with detailed lyrics, dynamic intros and smooth harmonies. The rising band is making their name grand in the blues industry and look to continue to grace large stages across the US and soon, Internationally.

On October 18th, 2023, The Shaelyn Band released their second album titled “Juke Joint!” The new album really takes you back to the good ole' juke joint days of backwoods energy. Songs like "Fake Love", "Saturday" and "Blues Storm" really bring the grooving vibes of the South to the world through passionate growls and raspy vocals, as well as synchronized harmonies.

Located in Bradenton Florida's Village of the Arts, Birdrock Taco Shack is not your average taco joint, but a unique funky-fun taco spot and live music venue. Owner and chef David Shiplett (who also owns the popular Cottonmouth South Soul Kitchen) doesn't serve up just any tacos. Blues and Brews: RJ Howson & Friends

Fire branded in the Chicago blues circuit, roots rocker and bluesman RJ Howson picked up his skillful guitar chops performing and sharing the stage with blues icons and fellow musicians at Buddy Guy’s Legends, Rosa's Lounge, Kingston Mines, BLUES on Halstead and many other clubs in the Windy City and playing countless shows all over the midwest. RJ continues to be steeped in the southern stews since moving to Florida with openers for Butch Trucks & the Freight Train Band, Dickey Betts & Great Southern, the Atlanta Rhythm Section, Molly Hatchet, Buddy Guy and a host of legendary musicians.

Having played music since being a child, RJ has played everything from Chicago Blues to Funk, Soul, Rock, Gospel, Country, Salsa and World Music. "My goal is to use music to show that the roots of all people are the same and to play it forward while paying tribute to the past and my mentors". No cover.

Bryan Spainhower
