BRADENTON — It's another weekend, and you know what that means. If you guessed another great lineup of local, talented musicians in Manatee, Sarasota, and surrounding counties, you would be correct. Check out The Bradenton Times Weekend Sounds to see what bands you can catch at your favorite venues.

Zach Regan & The 776
Swordfish Grill
Friday - 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Zach Regan & the 776 is  a south Florida band raised up on southern rock and country roots. They're high energy performers trying to put cracks in the mold of the Alt-Country scene. The band is currently working on their 2nd album and plan on releasing some acoustic singles throughout the next few months.

Like a jewel hiding in the mystique of the Cortez Fishing Village, the Swordfish Grill is right on the Sarasota Bay, creating a place that initiates relaxation and a laid-back ambiance. The staff is trained to take care of your every need, whether it be a cocktail, beer, or an item on the menu. Management oversees the kitchen, making sure all food items are fresh and prepared properly.

SoulFul Femme
Cottonmouth
Friday - 7:00 p.m.

SoulFul Femme met at a Blues Society event in 2014 and clicked immediately. A year later, they competed at the International Blues Competition in Memphis. Their first album, It Is Well With My Soul, was released in 2021. They then found themselves touring consistently, sharing stages with Tommy Castro and opening for such acts as Robert Cray, Mavis Staples, Ana Popovic, Samantha Fish, Shemekia Copeland, Joanne Shaw Taylor, Bernard Allison, Mike Zito, Albert Castiglia, and Jeremiah Johnson. “The planets were all in line when Cheryl and I met,” Stevee insists. “It became obvious that we had to take this journey simply because it was meant to be. She and I are women of a certain age and aren't quite ready to hang up our instruments…We still have a lot to say and we’re determined to say it in the here and now!”

Located in Bradenton Florida's Village of the Arts, Birdrock Taco Shack is not your average taco joint, but a unique funky-fun taco spot and live music venue. Owner and chef David Shiplett (who also owns the popular Cottonmouth South Soul Kitchen) doesn't serve up just any tacos. Dave has worked as a Chef in San Francisco, San Diego, Sarasota, and now Bradenton. Dine inside the eclectic artsy shack or outdoors on the porch and back patio. Cabana Dogs
Drift-In AMI
Friday - 9:00 p.m. - 1:00 a.m.

Cabana Dogs is a modern Trop-Rock band based in Sarasota, Florida. Inspired by easy beach living and the carefree energy of a tropical vacation, Cabana Dogs’ music is a blend of country, soul, reggae, and classic rock ’n’ roll. Their unique coastal mix calls on Rock, Country and Dance music creating a carefree atmosphere wherever they go. Together, their strong presence radiates an infectious groove that will get anyone on their feet.

About the venue:

Drift-In AMI, established in 1925, is the icon of Anna Maria Island. Located on Historic Bridge Street in the heart of Bradenton Beach, “The Drift” is famous for Ice Cold Cocktails, Live Music, and daily entertainment including Bingo, Bar Poker, and Karaoke! The Legend Himself, aka the Sultan of Swat, George Herman BABE Ruth once owned “The Drift”. Today lifelong Bradenton residents Derek and Helena Williams own Drift-In AMI taking over the reins from the one and only Jose Cuervo and Mrs. Angie in December 2022.

The Brown Bag Brass Band
Birdrock Taco Shack
Friday - 5:00 p.m.

Brown Bag Brass Band is one of Central Florida's hottest live acts. What started as a pickup band covering a last minute Mardi Gras gig, soon began delivering a horn-driven tour de force, serving the region and beyond.

Their music is rooted in their appreciation for New Orleans brass band music, but also includes jazz and other stylings. Since then, the b4 have firmly established themselves as an integral part of the live scene, characterized as loud, fast, high and generally always playing their own brand of Good Time Party Music. Cover $5.

Physical Plant w/ Hibiscus & X Minus 1
Oscura
Saturday - 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Physical Plant is a four-piece rock band incorporating high-energy funk, heavy guitars and ambitious arranging. Songwriters Caegan Quimby and Josh Scheible were placed in suspended animation in 1976 and were revived to write new deep cuts for classic rock radio.

For fans of: White Denim, Vulfpeck, Of Montreal, St. Vincent, Parcels

Influences: Steely Dan, Stevie Wonder, Supertramp, Yes, The Band

OSCURA has been reimagined and relaunched in the neighborhood of Old Manatee, with award-winning food and beverage programs, creative events, quality live music, and entertainment.

Stick & Ditty
3 Keys Brewing
Saturday - 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Stick Martin & Jon Ditty (aka Stick & Ditty) are two of Florida’s top-tier musical talents. Hailing from St. Petersburg and Dunedin, respectively, the pair accomplish a wide variety of Covers & Originals, ranging from (but not limited to): Beck, Creedence Clearwater
Revival, Gorillaz, Johnny Cash, Pink Floyd, Willie Nelson, Wu-Tang Clan, and more.

To Stick & Ditty’s further credit, their individual catalogs of original music should not be understated. Both musicians have independently won Tampa Bay’s “Best Hip-Hop Act” multiple times over, in addition to awards for Best Singer/Songwriter, Best Local Frontman, Best Spoken Word Artist, Best Cover Band, & even 4th Best Mayor (yes, really).

Their live performance achieves the sound of a full band by means of looper pedal mastery and each artist playing multiple different instruments. The buzz surrounding these two personalities has landed them billings on both Suwannee Hulaween & Orange Blossom Jamboree music festivals, as well as monthly and weekly gig residencies.

Nax Steel
Jiggs Landing Outpost
Sunday - 4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

From Bob Marley to Marvin Gaye and to the Jonas Brothers, Nax Steel can tastefully cover it all with the sophisticated sounds of his vibraphone playing smooth jazz, Latin or contemporary music, to the happy, joyful sounds of his steel drums playing reggae and calypso, Steel can make your event festive and memorable.

He plays restaurants, tiki bars, lodges, corporate events, weddings, bachelorette or girls night out parties. He can belly dance as well.

Jiggs Landing Outpost features a light menu, adult & soft beverages, snacks and Yoder's ice cream. Live music Thursdays through Sundays, 3 hours before sunset.

Justin Layman
Cortez Kitchen
Sunday - 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Justin Layman is a Singer/Songwriter from Sarasota Florida. He plays guitar and performs a unique style of music combining Folk, Rock, and R&B.

Justin has been performing since 2004 in original bands as well as cover bands all around the state of Florida. He is a member of the band The Curious Bedfellows alongside his wife Sara Nelms and percussionist Eddie James.

Justin has Recorded three albums ("Almost There," "02 03 Ten," & "You Shouldn't Look Like That"). No cover.
