BRADENTON — It’s a big weekend in local music with multiple live shows scheduled this Friday-Sunday. Check out the Bradenton Times Weekend Sounds to see what bands you can catch and where. 

Dead Set Florida
Birdrock Taco Shack
Friday: 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Dead Set Florida is a Tampa Bay-based band performing music of the Grateful Dead and The Jerry Garcia Band, as well as solo material from Bob Weir and Phil Lesh. The group was founded in 2017 by bassist and vocalist Christian Walker. Walker is joined by Paul Wolff (lead guitarist), Tucker Waud (keyboardist), Michael Garrie (rhythm guitar and vocals), Mike Garrie (drums and vocals), and Michael Pandiscio (rhythm guitar and vocals). Pandiscio is the band’s newest member, joining during the 2020 pandemic. A year later, the five-piece is complete and continuing its mission to keep the legacy of "the greatest musical presence of the 20th century" jamming, spinning, and dancing. $15 cover.

Located in Bradenton Florida's Village of the Arts, Birdrock Taco Shack is not your average taco joint, but a unique funky-fun taco spot and live music venue. Owner and chef David Shiplett—also the owner of popular Cottonmouth South Soul Kitchen—doesn’t serve up just any tacos. Brenda Watty & Her Peeps
Café in the Park
Friday: 7-9 p.m.

Brenda Watty’s singing career began at a young age in the gospel choir. Making her break performing/recording with The Marvelettes, her career led her on tours with other notable groups including; The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Crystals, Bo Diddley, and more.

Watty currently performs with various local groups, as well as heading her own show entitled, “It’s My Time,” named after her 2018 solo album It’s My Time, which featured the hit single, Girls Night Out. Born in Baltimore, Watty has since planted roots on Florida's West Coast, and is revered as Sarasota’s “Queen of R&B and Soul.” Performing jazz, pop, dance, and R&B, no cover.

Located in Payne Park, downtown Sarasota, Cafe in the Park captures the spirit of a quintessential urban cafe terrace. It's the perfect place for a great coffee, a fresh sandwich, and live music. The family-friendly spot has menu selections of healthy café-style food, non-alcoholic beverages, beer, and wine, all served in a community park setting. Truly a great place to catch a live show. Eric Von Band
Motorworks Brewing
Friday: 7-11 p.m.

"Country rock, island style." Singer-songwriter Eric Von is a Nashville recording artist, born and raised in Cortez, Florida. Von started playing guitar and writing music at just twelve years of age and was performing live by fourteen. Eric spent three years in Nashville, playing on Broadway, and writing and recording his second CD. His song, I Can't Help but Smile made it to number 64 on the Country Breakout Charts. In 2007, Von was named the Colgate Country Showdown winner for Central Florida and advanced to secure the title of Colgate Country Showdown winner for the State of Florida that same year. In 2008, he was named the winner of Kenny Chesney’s Next Big Star of the Tampa Bay Area. No cover.

Since its opening in 2014, Motorworks Brewing has become one of the most awarded breweries in Florida, with over 22 national and international medals. With 20+ beers on draught, a full liquor bar, wine, and a rotating batch of seasonal and specialty brews available, Motorworks is a great place to join friends for a fresh pint of beer or a cocktail. The Monsoons
Gilligan’s Island Bar
Friday: 6-10 p.m.

The Monsoons are a Sarasota-based party band blending the funkiness of New Orleans with good old rock n' roll. Drummer Pat McDonald spent nearly two decades touring with the world-famous Charlie Daniels Band. Lead guitarist and vocalist Steve Junot is a seasoned musician from New Orleans who toured internationally with a zydeco band, as well as having performed countless solo shows. Bassist and vocalist Chris Guertin boasts a career that has taken him to over 90 countries as the music director of cruise ships while also having performed as either band member or special guest bassist and vocalist in several locally favored bands. The three members form an experienced and professional trio, toss in their brand of charm and humor, and together the three create the perfect conditions for a good time. No cover.

Island Time Bar and Grill is located on Anna Maria Island’s Bridge Street. Situated on the ground floor beneath the Bridge Street Bistro, Island Time Bar & Grill offers an open "no-walls" tropical indoor/outdoor beachside bar setting with welcoming gulf breezes. Their varied menu serves from their upstairs restaurant, Bridge Street Bistro, featuring fresh ingredients, surf-to-turf, and made-from-scratch recipes. Celtic Conundrum
3 Keys Brewing

Celtic Conundrum brings to the stage an exciting mix of musical and vocal virtuosity with foot-stomping energy! Their music is a distinctive brand of infectious, energizing, and just plain fun. The band's original music and arrangements of traditional tunes have earned them a reputation as being among the pioneers of American Celtic. No cover.

About the Venue:
Located in Bradenton off of East Manatee Avenue, 3 Keys Brewing is a family-friendly brewery with a full kitchen serving up gourmet-style pub fare. Offering an inviting social atmosphere and weekly list of entertainment, music, and food and drink specials. Ben Prestage
Cottonmouth Southern Soul Kitchen
Saturday: 7-10 p.m.

The "Greatest One-Man Band," Ben Prestage is also the only two-time recipient of the Lyon/Pitchford Award for Best Diddley-Bow Player. Prestage's interesting approach to instrumentation—fingerstyle guitar, harmonica, banjo, lap-steel, fiddle, resonator guitar, foot drums, and strong vocals—has earned him invitations to perform across North America, Europe, and as far as North Africa. A 2012 nominee for the Independent Music Awards and the Blues Music Awards, his original songwriting earned him recognition as The Most Unique Performer at The Songwriters' Showcase of America, and he earned a 4th, 3rd, and 2nd placement at the International Blues Challenge over three consecutive years. Prestage performs American Blues, Roots Music, and Americana. $15 cover.

Located in Bradenton Village of the Arts, Cottonmouth Southern Soul Kitchen has quickly become one of Bradenton’s more popular outdoor music venues. Known for his eclectic southern dining, Chef Dave Shiplett puts his creative spin on southern classics serving up his brand of southern soul food in this 100-year-old cottage that doubles as an art gallery. The venue offers craft beer, wine, a list of creative hard ciders, and non-alcoholic beverages. Reservations are recommended due to limited capacity. 1114 12th Street West, Bradenton.

Treedomm
Tamiami Tap
Saturday: 7-10 p.m.

The Treedomm Band returns to the Cafe in the Park this Friday. Treedomm is a world music reggae fusion band performing a unique blend of various genres into a roots revival listening (and dancing) experience. Melding the roughness of street hip-hop with R&B, the sweetness of island zouk and calypso with reggae, Treedomm sets out to create an innovative sound by pulling from band members’ varied musical backgrounds. Band members apply heartfelt lyrics to these multiple genres. The band’s performance goal is to provide audiences with positive sounds carrying positive messages that will move listeners of all ages. No cover.

About the Venue:
Tamiami Tap is located in Sarasota’s historic Laurel Park neighborhood, just outside of Sarasota’s downtown. The venue is locally owned and operated, serving dinner and drinks, and live music every Friday and Saturday. Tamiami Tap is a family-friendly, pet-friendly, and vegan-friendly establishment. The Schmitz Brothers Band
Linger Lodge
Saturday: 6-9 p.m.

The Schmitz Brothers Band will perform Saturday evening at the newly remodeled Linger Lodge Restaurant. The Schmitz Brothers Band is a dynamic family band with skilled musicianship and memorable harmonies. Band members include father Dave Schmitz on guitar and vocals, twin sons Tim and Dave on guitar, bass and vocals, and long-time professional area percussionist, Phil Anderson, on drums. For more than a decade, The Schmitz Brothers Band has been performing for local audiences a catalog of classic rock and blues-based music along with reggae, jazz, bluegrass, and band originals. No cover.

About the Venue: 
The recently reopened (following renovations) Linger Lodge Restaurant & Bar is a standout for its dining atmosphere. With a scenic view of the Braden River, the family-friendly venue has gained fame among locals and tourists not only for its food and location but for its quirky and surprising displays of taxidermized creatures. Kettle of Fish
Stottlemyer’s Smokehouse

Over its years of performing, Kettle of Fish has shared the stage with numerous bands and musicians including Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Roger Waters’ Band, Devon Allman, Pat Travers, Damon Fowler, and Dickey Betts, and they have played opening performances for artists such as Eddie Money, Molly Hatchet, Elvin Bishop, Tommy Castro, Trombone Shorty, the Marshall Tucker Band, Jimmy Buffett (at the famous Blue Heaven in Key West), and many more. 

Led by lead singer, guitarist, and band founder Dana Lawrence, Kettle of Fish delivers a sound that is a rootsy "blues rock with soul" that works to bring together soulful blues with the energy of rock n’ roll. If you like the sound of the Rolling Stones, Tom Petty, Otis Redding, Robert Cray, Stevie Wonder, the Allman Brothers, or The Grateful Dead, you will love Kettle of Fish. No cover.

About the venue:
East of I-75 on Fruitville Road, Stottlemyer’s Smokehouse is an open-air barbecue restaurant set under an expansive outdoor tiki hut, including an old-Florida style Tiki-bar. Established by the Stottlemyer family, the family-friendly restaurant and live music venue serves brisket, ribs, pulled pork, sandwiches, and salads in a unique atmosphere. RJ Howson, Kach & Friends

Join RJ Howson, Mike Kach & Friends for Sunday Blues and Brews!

Local blues guitarist RJ Howson picked up his skillful guitar chops while performing at notable clubs of the Windy City such as Buddy Guy’s Legends and BLUES on Halstead, as well as countless other venues across the Midwest. Having played since childhood, RJ has played everything from blues to funk, soul, rock, gospel, country, salsa, and world music.

Mike Kach, keyboardist to Dickey Betts & Great Southern, Kach's soulful vocals and masterful performance on the keys has made him a standout of music old and new. Kach can be heard on Betts originals like No One Left to Run with It, Nobody Knows, and Southbound. His own ballad, Get Away, appeared on the Dickey Betts & Great Southern's live CD/DVD set Rockpalast: 30 Years of Southern Rock. No cover.
