BRADENTON — It's another weekend, and you know what that means. If you guessed another great lineup of local, talented musicians in Manatee, Sarasota, and surrounding counties, you would be correct. Check out The Bradenton Times Weekend Sounds to see what bands you can catch at your favorite venues.

Friday Fest: Kettle of Fish 
Van Wezel
Friday - 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Kettle of Fish, a beloved local band known for their dynamic mix of blues, soul, funk, and rock 'n roll, takes the stage. With their ability to put a fresh spin on classic tunes and deliver original songs that resonate with timeless charm, Kettle of Fish has earned a reputation as one of the most captivating live acts in southwest Florida. Having performed for thousands and shared billing with legendary artists such as Eddie Money, Marshall Tucker, Elvin Bishop, and Dickey Betts, their upcoming performance promises to be an unforgettable highlight of the summer series. No cover. 

About the venue:

Friday Fest, the free, outdoor summertime concert series returns this year with an exciting lineup of bands who will bring the audience to their feet! The events run from 5-9 p.m. and are located on the lawn of the Van Wezel.

Bring blankets or lawn chairs, take in the music and the sunset, and enjoy food and beverages from local vendors!

Note: Bringing in food, beverages or coolers from outside Friday Fest is prohibited.

Charlie Morris Band 
3 Keys Brewing
Friday - 7:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.

The Charlie Morris Band plays original and classic blues, with a little Louisiana lagniappe, a tad of Tennessee twang, and a heapin helpin of Florida gator tail.

Charlie’s original songs feature bluesy hooks, dance-inducing grooves and smile-inducing lyrics. You'll hear some slippery slide guitar, barrelhouse boogie-woogie piano, and grooves that'll get you moving like a gator in a puddle of hot sauce!

Charlie and the band have played clubs, festivals and events all over Florida, and in 13 countries, and have released 13 albums of original music. No cover.

Located in Bradenton off of East Manatee Avenue, 3 Keys Brewing is a family-friendly brewery with a full kitchen serving up gourmet-style pub fare. Offering an inviting social atmosphere and weekly list of entertainment, music, and food and drink specials. Josh Garrett
Cottonmouth
Friday - 7:00 p.m. 

Josh Garrett is a songwriter, singer and guitar player from New Roads, LA. He and his family relocated to Houma, LA when Josh was a child. Josh picked up his father’s guitar when he was 12 years old and started writing songs soon after. By age 20, Garrett was performing several times a week in Houma, LA.

At age 24, he recorded his first album entitled, “Changed Man” and never looked back. Josh and his band started to travel regionally to promote his new album. In 2008, he relocated to Nashville, TN.

While there, he recorded his second album, “Live on Printer’s Alley” - a double album released Nov 2009. In 2010, Josh returned home to Louisiana, and began work on his third album. "String of Problems”, released Aug 2011, hit #1 on the Roots Music Louisiana Blues Charts, and hit the #1 Spot two weeks in a row on American Blues Scene “Blues Top Five”.

While continuing to tour and promote his unique brand of Louisiana roots and soul, Garrett recorded his latest album “Honey For My Queen”.

Josh still resides in his home state of Louisiana near Baton Rouge.

A World Premiere Event on Stage in the Bradenton Kiwanis Theater at MPAC!

Murder mystery writer Agatha Christie loved keeping whodunnit aficionados guessing with clues that ended in surprising and climactic revelations. But none of her fictional works could compare or were as fascinating as a real event in the author's life that startled millions and made front-page newspaper headlines around the world—and which is the inspiration for the new mystery play by B. J. Mohr.

This show runs approximately two hours with a fifteen-minute intermission.

Jeff James 
Floridays

Award-winning musician Jeff James is known as "Hawaii's Hitmaker" and "The Perfect Wedding Musician". He has written and performed songs throughout Asia, Latin America, and the USA. Many of his songs have been on platforms like Netflix, and CBS "Hawaii Five-0".

Many describe his intimate shows as "Captivating" and "Soothing" while his upbeat shows are said to be "Fun", and "Spontaneous".

With his pitch-perfect vocals and skillful musicianship, he is the perfect addition for your private event, corporate event, memorial, or wedding (proposals, engagements, ceremonies, receptions). No cover.

About the venue:

Floridays - We’re not just seafood and orange groves - we’ve got acres of farmland producing strawberries, tomatoes, okra, green beans and a variety of greens. We have a rich heritage of southern cooking and family gatherings.

Our bones are classic old school Florida Fish House, done with a lot of personality and a little dash of “quirkiness”. Expect to be greeted by a manatee hanging from the ceiling and to feel like you stepped into a scene from a 1960’s postcard.

Gin and Juice Band
Birdrock Taco Shack

The music of the Gin & Juice Band is just plain, blues-based fun! Although they are a cover band, they lend their own flavor, often changing up arrangements and the feel of familiar tunes. They share a broad mix of musical tastes, and influences, including New Orleans roots, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Rock, a little Country and of course, the Blues!

Jim Groves: Bass, Vocals, Harmonica.
Jim has performed locally in Sarasota, as well as Kokomo, Muncie and Indianapolis, in his home state, Indiana. An accomplished musician, Jim also performs solo gigs on acoustic guitar.

David Lowe: Guitar & Vocals.
A native of Holmes Beach, Dave has been part of the local area music scene for long time. In addition to the usual full roster of guitar greats, Dave's musical inspiration is deeply rooted in jazz.

Dale Harris: Drums.
Dale is from Missouri, where he played the syncopated rhythms of Soul-Funk-Motown in a big band with full horn section. Prior to forming Gin and Juice, Dale could be seen sitting-in at various jam sessions around Sarasota.

Located in Bradenton Florida's Village of the Arts, Birdrock Taco Shack is not your average taco joint, but a unique funky-fun taco spot and live music venue. Owner and chef David Shiplett (who also owns the popular Cottonmouth South Soul Kitchen) doesn't serve up just any tacos. Dave has worked as a Chef in San Francisco, San Diego, Sarasota, and now Bradenton. Dine inside the eclectic artsy shack or outdoors on the porch and back patio. Sara Nelms

Sara Nelms is an Americana singer-songwriter based in Sarasota, FL. Nelms' sound combines the control and melodic power of her classical training, melancholy of lost loves, the southern stylings from a lifetime love affair with country music, and the grit and truth found in her former home in New York City. Nelms performs throughout the Sarasota and Bradenton areas.  No cover.
