Dean Johanesen
Fiorelli Winery and Vineyard

Dean Johanesen is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from New York. He has resided and performed in several US states, but currently calls Sarasota home. Johanesen's passion for gypsy jazz music in the vein of Django Reinhardt has put him on a musical path focused on stories of old times, placed in a backdrop of gypsy swing, a style that he has coined ""circus swing."" Throughout his career, Johanesen has shared bills with notable musicians such as Robby Krieger (formerly of the Doors), Donovan Frankenreiter, Martha Wainwright, Howard Jones, Steve Forbert, John Waite, and Peter Mulvey.  No cover.

About the venue:

Mylon Shamble
Waterside Place
Saturday - 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Mylon was born in Chicago but grew up in Bradenton, FL. Her introduction to singing and songwriting is actually accredited to some of her friends from college. When asked to go to an open mic night to support some of the friends that had started a band, she ended up joining them for a song during the open jam and the rest was history.

They began to book major gigs as a headlined band throughout their time at FAU. Some of the members left after graduation, but not wanting to lose momentum, Mylon started booking weddings and private events as an entertainer from 2012-present day. She also began to work in studios, writing original music for herself and for other artists’ projects.

After graduating from FAU, Mylon auditioned for ‘American Idol’ and made it all the way through to Hollywood. Currently, she works as a Songwriter/Entertainer as well as a flight attendant for Spirit Airlines. No cover.

Rusty Wright Band
Big Top Brewing
Saturday - 7:00 p.m.

The son of a blues record-collecting father and a gospel-singing mother, Flint, Michigan native Rusty Wright has spent most of his life on the road and in the recording studio honing his singular take on improvisation-heavy blues rock.

Rusty Wright is a masterful lyric storyteller, guitarist, vocalist, and producer. This Billboard Top 5 artist's sound is a hot fusing of Texas-style blues; driving boogie and Southern guitar rock. The band’s lineup includes Rusty on guitar and lead vocals, wife Laurie LaCross-Wright on guitar and lead/harmony vocals, Billy Agner on bass/harmony vocals, and Vail Hayes on drums.

Wright’s sound assimilates everything from the passion and flamboyance of SRV, to the cool riffs and right-in-the-pocket grooves of Chicago blues guitarist Hubert Sumlin and Freddy King, AKA “The Texas Cannonball”, to the intricate harmonies of the Allman Brothers, with the occasional indulgence of including one of Wright’s interesting musical ‘left turns’. It’s all blended with the forthright nature of Rusty’s world-weary (yet hopeful), plight-of-the-common-man lyrics. This ain’t your granddad’s blues.

Call it contemporary blues, call it blues rock, southern rock, driving boogie, jam blues, blues-infused rock…. It’s all that… just not all at the same time. Call it whatever you want. As Rusty likes to say “It doesn’t matter what you call it. If it sounds good, it IS good.” No cover.

The locally known and respected drummer has years of performances under his belt. Varnado has performed and toured with the likes of George Porter Jr (The Meters), Charmaine Neville (Neville Bros Family), Tab Benoit, Mem Shannon Blues Band, Jon Cleary, Dickey Betts (of the Allman Brothers), The Dixie Cups (Doo Wop), and has shared the stage with various local bands.
