Tamás Nagy Trio
Cafe in the Park
Friday - 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.

Join Hungarian artist Tamás Nagy on guitar and vocals, with accomplished musicians Jack Berry on bass, and Jared Johnson on drums. Nagy is a native Hungarian musician who brings a personal touch to his interpretations of Hungarian and Eastern European influences in the jazz arena.

Nagy was born and raised in Hungary. Early on, he discovered his passion for music. As a young guitarist, he was interested in a wide range of musical genres. Since growing up in the heart of Europe, his musical taste was defined by Budapest’s renowned underground scene, traditional folk, gypsy jazz and classical music. As he was seeking a deeper and more profound way of his artistic expression, he naturally gravitated towards the world of secular-eastern music.

Over his career around Europe and in the United States, he played in various bands and formations in which he was incorporating his distinct musical style. For years, the idea of creating a completely acoustic musical environment had been emerging. Throughout many musical insights, the Tamás Nagy experience was ready to unfold... No cover.

Ellis Paul
Fogartyville
Friday - 8:00 p.m.

Ellis Paul doesn’t just write songs; he’s a guitar-carrying reporter who covers the human condition and details the hopes, loves, losses of those he observes, turning their stories into luminous pieces of music that get under your skin and into your bloodstream. And much like the artists who have influenced him, everyone from Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan and Paul Simon to the singer-songwriter who is undoubtedly his greatest inspiration, Woody Guthrie, Paul weaves deeply personal experiences with social issues and renders them as provocative works that are as timely as they are timeless.

Born and raised in Maine, Paul attended Boston College on a track scholarship and in the evenings became a fixture on the city’s open mic circuit. After winning a Boston Acoustic Underground songwriter competition, he caught the ear of folk luminary Bill Morrissey, who produced his indie album Say Something in 1993. This led to a seven-album contract with Rounder Records and the 1994 album, “Stories”.

His songs have appeared in several blockbuster films (Me, Myself, and Irene; Shallow Hal, Hall Pass) and have been covered by award-winning country artists (Sugarland, Kristian Bush, Jack Ingram). Through a steady succession of albums of his own – a remarkable 23 releases so far – and a constant touring presence around the world, Paul’s audience has grown into a loyal legion of fans.

Along the way, he has picked up an impressive number of awards, including the prestigious Kerrville New Folk Award, 15 Boston Music Awards, An Honorary Doctorate from the University of Maine, the 2019 International Acoustic Music Awards Artist of the Year and most recently his album, “The Storyteller’s Suitcase”, was named the 2019 NERFA Album of the Year.

His new album “55” touches on the necessity of gratitude in a difficult era of the pandemic and divided political stances on his own imprint, Rosella Records.

Oscura Brunch Series: Noan Partly
Oscura
Sunday - 10:30 a.m. & 12 p.m.

Oklahoma native / Florida migrant,  Noan Partly delivers dexterous finger-picked instrumentation, lucid- resonant vocals and deft ruminative lyrics. A self-taught musician, her performance brings about a musicality that feels self-actualized yet vulnerable, astounding yet comforting. Heavily rhythmic and melodically discerning, Noan Partly is sonically distinct. Though folk lovers will detect recognizable elements of traditional Americana, subtle grunge-adjacent and psychedelic influences peek through as well.

Her works often encourage the listener to revel in their own vulnerability and give in to the intrinsic sense within us that yearns to better understand all things existential.

Performances at 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

About the venue:

OSCURA has been reimagined and relaunched in the neighborhood of Old Manatee, with award-winning food and beverage programs, creative events, quality live music, and entertainment.

We are taking that established brand that was built over two and a half years in the previous location and adding new layers; with aesthetics that represent our view of Bradenton, past, present and future.
