BRADENTON – It's going to be another great weekend to get out and enjoy some live music at a number of local venues. Check out The Bradenton Times Weekend Sounds to see what bands you can catch and where.
Folknharmony
McCabe's Irish Pub
Friday: 7-10 p.m.
Folknharmony returns to Old Main with more folked-up jams. Dr. Zach Johnson (guitar/vocals), Nancy Gauvreau (guitar/vocals), and Beau Wilberding (Cajon percussion) have created a trio that’s musically astute, charming, choc-full of on-point harmonies, and always a good time. The trio's interpretations of popular covers offer uniqueness and renewal that will have listeners falling in love with their favorite songs all over again. There's a reason this band is quickly becoming 941's favorite folk'n trio. No cover.

Located in Downtown Bradenton, McCabe's Irish Pub is one of Old Main Street’s must-stop watering holes. The venue provides an authentic atmosphere of the traditional Irish Pub-lic gathering place, with a wide selection of beer and spirits. The Irish-owned and operated neighborhood pub hosts live music that stays compatible with a pub environment intended to support community gathering and socializing. Dead Set Florida

Dead Set Florida is a Tampa Bay-based band performing music of the Grateful Dead and The Jerry Garcia Band, as well as solo material from Bob Weir and Phil Lesh. The group was founded in 2017 by bassist and vocalist Christian Walker. Walker is joined by Paul Wolff (lead guitarist), Tucker Waud (keyboardist), Michael Garrie (rhythm guitar and vocals), Mike Garrie (drums and vocals), and Michael Pandiscio (rhythm guitar and vocals). Pandiscio is the band’s newest member, joining during the 2020 pandemic. A year later, the five-piece is complete and continuing its mission to keep the legacy of "the greatest musical presence of the 20th century" jamming, spinning, and dancing. No cover.

Big Top Brewing Company is a Sarasota-based production brewery. Valuing their great town and its great history, they set out to add in great local beer. Eireann’s Call

Eireann's Call draws from the rich wellsprings of Scottish, Irish, Welsh, and Galician music, and adds influences from Norway, Appalachia, Germany, Spain, and Morocco, all with a hefty dose of driving rock. Husband and wife team, David and Cat Doersch, previously toured nationally and internationally with popular Celtic rock band Coyote Run. In April of 2021, their new band, Eireann’s Call, released its first album entitled tœs which means "debut" or "beginning" in Gaelic. While based in the Bradenton area, Eireann’s Call has a broad reach, touring as far as Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Band members include David Doersch (bagpipes, accordion, keys, vocals), Cat Doersch (drums, vocals), Rich McGuire (Guitar, vocals), Skotie Carino (bass guitar), and Chris Dawson (fiddle, vocals) No cover.

Since its opening in 2014, Motorworks Brewing has become one of the most awarded breweries in Florida, with over 22 national and international medals. Locally-based singer and performer Twinkle has worked with Aerosmith, Dickie Betts, Rod Stewart, Gregg Allman, and countless others. In the 90s, she was signed to Warner Brothers for her debut album Haunted by Real Life produced by Patrick Leonard (Madonna, Roger Waters, Pink Floyd) where it gained ready attention on the jazz/pop charts for its title song. Rock Soul Radio members are lead vocalist Twinkle, guitarist Lenny Brooks, bassist Tony LeClerc, and Benny Puckett on drums. Twinkle & Rock Soul Radio was recently named the area's best band in TBT's Best of Manatee Bradenton Awards. No cover.

Kettle of Fish has been performing in clubs, pubs, and venues across Manatee and Sarasota, as well as across Florida and the U.S., for years. Lead singer, guitarist, and band founder Dana Lawrence is one of the area’s favorite singer-songwriters. Kettle of Fish is a band with an ever-fluid rotation of talented local and guest musicians.
Over their years of performing, Kettle of Fish has shared the stage with numerous bands and musicians including Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Roger Waters’ Band, Devon Allman, Pat Travers, Damon Fowler, and Dickey Betts. They have also played opening performances for artists such as Eddie Money, Molly Hatchet, Elvin Bishop, Tommy Castro, Trombone Shorty, the Marshall Tucker Band, Jimmy Buffett (at the famous Blue Heaven in Key West), and many more. Kettle of Fish delivers a sound that is a rootsy "blues rock with soul" that works to bring together soulful blues with the energy of rock n’ roll. No cover.

Celtic Conundrum brings to the stage an exciting mix of musical and vocal virtuosity with foot-stomping energy! Their music is a distinctive brand of infectious, energizing, and just plain fun. The band's original music and arrangements of traditional tunes have earned Celtic Conundrum a reputation as being among the pioneers of American Celtic. No cover.

Located in Bradenton off of east Manatee Avenue, 3 Keys Brewing is a family-friendly brewery with a full kitchen serving up gourmet-style pub fare. Memphis Rub Band is a 4-piece band from the Sarasota/Bradenton area performing a blend of blues, rock, funk, and R&B. Starring Gary Drouin on guitar, Scott Matzke on bass and vocals, Dan Ryan on keys, and David Wells on drums/vocals, they perform both covers and original music. In 2018, Memphis Rub released their first album, Taste, and several tracks from the album have been played on area radio stations WMNF and WSLR, including "Red Tide Blues." No cover.

Island Time Bar and Grill is located on Anna Maria Island’s Bridge Street. Situated on the ground floor beneath the Bridge Street Bistro, Island Time Bar & Grill offers an open "no-walls" tropical indoor/outdoor beachside bar setting with welcoming gulf breezes. Their varied menu serves from their upstairs restaurant, Bridge Street Bistro, featuring fresh ingredients, surf-to-turf, and made-from-scratch recipes by chef Jimmy Lopatinski. Damon Fowler is a masterful singer, guitarist, and songwriter. His music is representative of the many styles that make up the roots of American music. Critics have compared Fowler’s guitar work to Johnny Winter and Jeff Beck, while his slide guitar is reminiscent of the late Duane Allman. Fowler is known for his fiery guitar runs, while his lyrical work on lap steel and dobro makes him a stand-out performer among guitar heroes.
The Florida native’s hybrid of roots rock, blues, songwriting, and vocals has earned him professional accolades from fellow artists and music journalists alike and a nomination for the 2022 Blues Music Awards.
The Damon Fowler Band features Fowler, drummer Justin Headley, and bassist Chuck Riley.

James Varnado & Johnny Barker Open Jam
Cottonmouth Southern Soul Kitchen
Sunday: 5-8 p.m.
Born in New Orleans, drummer James Varnado relocated to Florida’s Gulf Coast in 2006. Varnado has performed and toured with the likes of George Porter Jr (The Meters), Charmaine Neville (Neville Bros Family), Tab Benoit, Mem Shannon Blues Band, Jon Cleary, Dickey Betts (of the Allman Brothers), The Dixie Cups (Doo-Wop), and has shared the stage with various local bands.
Johnny Barker and Sergae Glushenkov join Varnado for this eclectic rotating jazzy blues jam. Barker is a bassist and the founding member of "The JBP," also known as The Johnny Barker Project. Sergae Glushenkov is a Ukrainian-born pianist who currently serves as band director at Southside Elementary school.
The trio offers audiences something a bit more like a variety show, leading the jam with opening songs, and welcoming a rotation of other talented local guest musicians to join the stage. A jam session guaranteed to bring sound surprises you won’t hear anywhere else. No cover.
