Wenzel, Benac and Heintz Arrested on Felony Animal Cruelty Charges Related to Shark-Dragging Video

BRADENTON – The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office have arrested three young men from Manatee County for actions related to the viral shark-dragging video and social media pictures that showed them torturing animals.
Michael Wenzel, 21, and Robert "Bo" Benac, 28, were charged with two felony counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty and one misdemeanor count of Illegal Method of Take. Spencer Heintz, 23, was charged with two felony counts of Aggravated Animal Cruelty.
"I was outraged by the sickening video of a shark being horribly abused earlier this year" said Florida Governor Rick Scott in a press release responging to the arrests. "Florida has no tolerance for this mistreatment, and I am proud of the hard work of FWC law enforcement during this investigation to hold these individuals accountable for their horrific actions."
