BRADENTON – Firefighter Jeff Philips of West Manatee Fire & Rescue has successfully completed the process that awards him the professional designation of “Fire Officer” (FO). The Commission on Professional Credentialing (CPC) met on October 1, 2013, to officially confer the designation upon Firefighter Philips. Firefighter Philips is one of only 168 FO’s worldwide and the second at West Manatee to earn the designation.

The CPC awards the FO designation only after an individual successfully meets all of the organization’s stringent criteria. The process includes an assessment of the applicant’s education, experience, professional development, technical competencies, contribution to the profession and community involvement. In addition, all applicants are required to identify a future professional development plan.

The FO designation uses a comprehensive peer review model to evaluate candidates seeking the credential. Firefighter Philips has been a member for the West Manatee Fire & Rescue District since 2004 and is a member of the Manatee County Honor Guard and the Manatee County Hazardous Materials Team.
