Williams Taken in First-Round of WNBA Draft

Posted
BRADENTON – Just weeks after leading LSU to an NCAA women's basketball national championship, Bradenton's LaDazhia Williams was selected in the first round of the WNBA draft. The Lakewood Ranch High alum was selected by the Indiana Fever with the 17th overall pick.

Williams, a 6'4 forward, had moved into the pool of likely first-round picks following an epic run in the NCAA tournament that culminated with 20 points and 5 rebounds in the Tigers' 102-85 routing of Iowa in the championship game. Williams also put up 24 points to push her team past Utah in the Sweet 16 round.

Williams played only one year at LSU after transferring from Missouri. She was named Florida’s 8A Player of the Year in 2017 and was a three-time first-team all-state selection. She is Lakewood Ranch’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder.
