BRADENTON – The Florida Legislature recently passed a bill that would lower the cost of motor vehicle registrations by up to $25 per year. Assuming it is signed by the Governor (who proposed the cut), it will go into law September 1. Manatee County Tax Collector Ken Burton, Jr. is advising those who have to renew in the interim to select the one-year option, as to save money next year.

“Even though people, who like me, have birthdays before September 1st won’t be able to take advantage of the fee reduction this year, they can take advantage of it next year,” said Burton. “My colleagues around the state are trying to get the word out to only renew for one year, instead of two. There is no cost advantage with two-year registration renewals, they are offered as a matter of convenience.”
