BRADENTON  It's another fantastic weekend for 941 s music lovers with several great shows lined up at some of Bradenton and Sarasota s most popular live music venues. Check out the Bradenton Times Weekend Sounds to see what bands you can catch and where.


Dean Johanesen

Cottonmouth Southern Soul Kitchen

Friday: 6-8 p.m.

Dean Johanesen is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from New York. He has resided and performed in several US states, but currently calls Sarasota home. Johanesen's passion for gypsy jazz music in the vein of Django Reinhardt has put him on a musical path focused on stories of old times, placed in a backdrop of gypsy swing, a style that he has coined ""circus swing."" Throughout his career, Johanesen has shared bills with notable musicians such as Robby Krieger (formerly of the Doors), Donovan Frankenreiter, Martha Wainwright, Howard Jones, Steve Forbert, John Waite, and Peter Mulvey. Join Johansen for an acoustic show Friday evening on the patio stage at VOTA s Cottonmouth. No cover.


About the Venue:

Located in Bradenton Village of the Arts, Cottonmouth Southern Soul Kitchen has quickly become one of Bradenton s more popular outdoor music venues. Known for his eclectic Southern dining, Chef Dave Shiplett puts his creative spin on Southern classics serving up his brand of Southern soul food in this 100-year-old cottage that doubles as an art gallery. Folknharmony

Tamiami Tap

Friday: 7-10 p.m.


This trio's interpretations of popular covers offer uniqueness and renewal that will have listeners falling in love with their favorite songs all over again. Folknharmony includes Beau Wilberding on Cajon and vocals, Dr. Zachary Johnson on acoustic guitar and vocals, and Nancy Gauvreau on vocals, rhythm guitar, and percussion. The band plays folk d up rock tunes and B-sides of the artists you love. With wit, grit, and three-part harmonies, the stripped-down acoustic trio finds new spirit in iconic, generational rock, folk, and blues songs from the last half-century. No cover.


About the Venue:

Tamiami Tap is located in Sarasota s historic Laurel Park neighborhood, just outside of Sarasota s downtown. The venue is locally owned and operated, serving dinner and drinks, and live music every Friday and Saturday. Tamiami Tap is a family-friendly, pet-friendly, and vegan-friendly establishment. 22N

Stottlemyer's Smokehouse

Friday: 7-10 p.m.

Performing a catalog of songs from the full spectrum of genres and generations, a first-timer to a 22N show will no doubt be entertained simply by the transitions from one well-performed cover to the unexpected next. From pop, country, rock, metal, disco, and Top 40, if you ve heard it on the radio, they probably cover it. The high-energy five-piece clearly knows the worth of engaging the audience, evidenced by a packed dance floor and even a boisterous sing-a-long or two. Fronted by lead singer Kristen Lee, 22N utilizes backdrop screens and lighting effects to produce a concert-esque show whatever the venue a beer garden, bar and restaurant, or club. Some artists covered include Bruno Mars, Pink, Adele, AC/DC, The Cult, Beastie Boys, Journey, Tom Petty, Maroon 5, Motley Crew, Prince, Def Leppard, Queen, Cranberries, and so, so many more! About the Venue:

East of I-75 on Fruitville Road, Stottlemyer s Smokehouse is an open-air barbecue restaurant set under an expansive outdoor tiki hut, including an old-Florida style Tiki-bar. Established by the Stottlemyer family, the family-friendly restaurant and live music venue serves brisket, ribs, pulled pork, sandwiches, and salads in a unique atmosphere. Hot Club of SRQ

Birdrock Taco Shack

Saturday: 6:30-9:30 p.m.


Hot Club of SRQ performs gypsy jazz rooted in the style of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli. The trio's music simply swings and is full of beauty and romance. The Hot Club of SRQ s sound can best be described as a 21st-century hybrid of the famous Quintette du Hot Club de France. The likeness of these two ensembles is the violin and guitar that create the fire and magic that make their music so captivating. Another likeness is the infectious groove known as La Pompe, which literally means the pump, and is an unmistakable hard-swinging rhythmical characteristic of this music. This style of swing jazz is more accessible to a broader audience. No cover.

JP Soars & The Red Hots

Cottonmouth Southern Soul Kitchen

Blues musician, guitarist, and vocalist JP Soars and The Red Hots, return to VOTA's Cottonmouth stage this Saturday. The band was awarded 1st place in the Blues Foundation s 2009 International Blues Challenge and band frontman Soars won the prestigious Albert King Award as best guitarist. Soars has toured extensively through the United States, Canada, South America, and Europe. The Red Hots include drummer Chris Peet and bassist Cleveland Frederick. Soars inspired by the musical influences of blues and jazz greats such as T-bone Walker, Jesse May Hemphill, Wes Montgomery, Django Reinhardt, Muddy Waters, and others brings a uniquely diverse, yet cohesive sound to the blues by weaving in aspects of his many influences. $15 cover. 1114 12th Street West, Bradenton.


Dr. Dave Band

Clancy's Irish Sports Pub and Grill

Saturday: 5-9 p.m.


The Dr. Dave Band is a high-energy country and classic rock band. They ve received five Reader's Choice Awards including 2021 Reader's Choice Best Local Musical Group/Performer for their feel-good, make-you-smile performances. Band leader Dr. Dave plays guitar, electric fiddle, and banjo. Dr. Dave describes their music as ""Kick-grass country-rock."" No cover.

Clancy s Irish Sports Pub is in Bradenton off Cortez Rd. Clancy s is known for its bar-fare food, full liquor bar, live entertainment, and, most of all  fun! Their casual and relaxed atmosphere has been described as, ""Irish Tavern meets Jimmy Buffet."" Matt Burke

Bunny & Pirates Bizarre

Saturday: 7-10 p.m.

Matt Burke, lead singer, songwriter, and guitarist of famed local band Have Gun, Will Travel will perform a solo acoustic show in Bunny & Pirate s intimate beer garden this Saturday. Burke's songwriting draws on Western themes of life and death, honor, and morality. Burke will perform some of the songs that have garnished HGWT its popularity among fans adding in a sprinkling of cover tunes. HGWT has built one of the strongest regional followings on the Gulf Coast in recent years, combining folk, pop, rock, and classic country influences to create a sound all its own. Cover $3.

Located on Cortez Rd in West Bradenton, Bunny & Pirates is a place where you will feel welcomed. Whether it s your first visit or your hundredth, the intimate outdoor space is, ""like hanging out in a friend's backyard."" The pet-friendly venue is a mix of deli, market, and pub. RJ Howson, Kach & Friends

Join RJ Howson, Mike Kach & Friends for Big Top's Sunday Blues and Brews!


RJ Howson picked up his skillful guitar chops performing and sharing the stage with blues icons and fellow musicians at Buddy Guy s Legends, Rosa's Lounge, Kingston Mines, BLUES on Halstead, and many other clubs in the Windy City as well as countless other venues across the Midwest.


Mike Kach, keyboardist to Dickey Betts & Great Southern, Kach's soulful vocals can be heard on Betts originals like No One Left to Run with It, Nobody Knows, and Southbound. Kach's own ballad, Get Away, appeared on the Dickey Betts & Great Southern's live CD/DVD set Rockpalast: 30 Years of Southern Rock.


This Sunday, RJ and Kach will be joined by drummer Steve Camilleri and bassist Burt Engelsman. The four have performed together and separately with numerous other musicians and bands throughout their notable professional careers. No cover.

Doug Deming & The Jewel Tones

Doug Deming & the Jewel Tones play traditional blues, West Coast and Texas swing, and early '50s roots rock. Deming is an American blues and roots guitarist/vocalist, earning a Blues Blast Music Award nomination for Best Blues Band in 2013 and 2019. They also reached No. 3 on Billboard s blues albums chart for their 2018 record Complicated Mess. Accompanied by bassist Andrew Goham (formerly of the Bottom Feeders), and percussionist Zack Pomerleau (a seasoned musician born and raised in Auburn, Maine), this trio is rockin' rhythm & blues. Kat Crosby and the Rhythm Gators

This Sunday, join Kat Crosy and the band at Mattison s Riverwalk for a Blues Brunch. Sophisticated blues with a hint of jazz define Kat Crosby and the Rhythm Gators. Lead singer and songwriter Kat Crosby performs the blues from a woman s perspective. Crosby's playlist is a combination of original music and storytelling and carefully chosen cover songs. An experienced and nationally recognized band that has played numerous festivals and other venues together for more than 20 years. No cover.
