Taxpayers are directly subsidizing the world’s wealthiest man (MUSK) even as he cuts programs for the poorest people on earth. This article is spot on. Ironically, it does not even mention the MILLIONS that taxpayers have spent over the last three months for Trump's golfing trips and weekends in Mar a Lago, which has even included Musk and his son to ride on Air Force One (which is ironic that Musk owns two private jets yet US taxpayers are paying for his transportation). Thanks again for a wonderful write up on Florida’s true and unique history in the cattle industry.

Governor DeSantis says that college students used to work at these resorts. He worked as a teenager why shouldn’t today’s teenagers? Gov DeSantis has done his best to rid the state of Florida of immigrants legal or not thereby creating a labor shortage which he seeks to fill with High School students not college students. His idol Donald Trump uses immigrants in his resort who are here on work visas ( he has said that he uses these immigrants so he doesn’t have to pay overtime). It’s pretty disgusting that DeSantis wants to fill a gap he created with, “kids”, but this is the kind of man he and his idol are. Jim Tierney

Florida is an overwhelmingly red state filled with people that never met a conspiracy theory that they didn’t like. I’d argue that proves chemtrails are a thing and they work.

Woa.... I'd totally missed this.... Scary, and sadly unsurprising. The have been a number of computer scientists speaking out about nefarious use of ai, algorithms and tech over the years. I'm not terribly confident we've seen an administration yet that understands the problem.

We are now funding a concentration camp in another country and sending people there without due process. More than a little bit like Nazi Germany.

A social justice warrior masquerading as a proud government servant. Most of what the federal government does is completely unconstitutional and not within its enumerated powers. We know that this person is a political activist by his post office example. If you choose to live out in the middle of nowhere, fine that is your choice. But then the taxpayers of America have to pay to have somebody drive twenty miles a day round trip to deliver your mail? I might have missed it but there's nothing in the Bill of Rights that says we have a right to have our mail delivered right to our doorstep...no matter how far we live from the post office. Long live DOGE!

Another example of typical B.S. from people who should (and do) know better. In the first place, the RP tax credit would help property owners and do nothing for non-property owners; the sales tax reduction would help everyone but is a major source of government revenue since Florida does not have an income tax. As usual, flap lips but brain not engaged.

It is good that this school is embracing security measures. It's not so good that Florida insists on being gun stupid - open carry and planning to reduce the age to 18 years old for a gun purchase. Only in America could the archaic Second Amendment be construed to mean 'permanent posses on the loose."

This country is becoming a country of Project 2025. Only whites allowed who are Christians. What Trump is doing is inhuman. Send his kids to these prisons for a week. The whites tried to kill all of our native Americans, but they are still here.

I encourage everyone to watch the film "Waters Journey" that is linked in the first paragraph of this article. It is from 2003, and a total of half an hour (in three segments). I feel it should be required viewing by every elected official in the State of Florida..city, county and statewide. I have seen it several times, yet each viewing provides amazing insight into our Florida aquifers. It is critical to understand our dependance on water...and our responsibility to protect it. PLEASE watch it and share these insights and knowledge with others. Ruth Lawler

I think that every elected official and department heads should have an open email account in where every email is available to the public. If it's public record, make it PUBLIC. If you don't like being under the microscope...get out of the lab.

And the expense of sending the individual notices and revocation forms to each of the hundreds of thousands of petition signers would be paid by the citizen initiative group. This is a shameful bill aimed at preventing the public from overriding anti good governance laws like the law the allowed Manatee government to bill Joe McClash $250k just for trying to get a court opinion. We need to hold our state legislators Robinson and Conerly accountable for taking away our voice.

I understand the decision but am still disappointed. I, too, backed down from my first amendment rights when I agreed (after 18 months and paying over $100K in legal fees) to settle, at a loss, my lawsuit against Manatee county after they terminated me as a volunteer for speaking out. The fact is that it takes a ton of money to defend the First Amendment in court - and when one side has all the money, they can bankrupt the other party in legal fees, irregardless of the Constitution.

Commissioner Rahn cited SB 250 saying the wetland buffers are more restrictive and therefore should not be allowed. SB 250 was adopted June 29, 2023. The Comp Plan amendment on wetlands buffers was adopted in October 2023, 4 months later. Therefore, the buffers were in effect prior to the adoption of SB 250. This proposed amendment is just rescinding the one approved in October 2023 and reverting back to what was existing in the Comp Plan prior to June 29, 2023. It is not more restrictive. And the LDC was never revised regarding wetland buffers. Increasing the size of the buffers (which I would love to see) would be more restrictive, but Orange County increased theirs to 100' in December 2023 and I could not find a single lawsuit when googled.
