Blame this on Mikey Johnson dissing America to support an insurrectionist for his own personal gain.he won’t try to solve or even mitigate the problem at the border, yet he has the audacity to try and impeach Mayorkas even though congress won’t create meaningful laws for him to work with. Shame. I guess he likes being in his job that much that he’s willing to sacrifice America to keep it. I wouldn’t doubt if johnson was involved in the insurrection behind the scene

Why is it that the party that screams about the evils of BIG government Now has as its main goal be a central government that not only is trampling on individual rights , but is totally decimating home rule of cities and villages. Sounds like communism to me. I don’t think that the republicans can blame this on Biden like they do everything else. But just wait and see.

Why the private street? Is there a financial or zoning related reason? You mentioned a requirement for a unique entrance to each parcel had Beruff broken up the property. Maybe designating the private street helps eliminate that possibility. I can’t see him doing it just to be vane. Great reporting. If someone brought this to your attention, kudos to them.

More insight into the Musgrave property and the political maneuverings. So unfortunate that this property appears that it will not be utilized for what it was purchased for, which it is needed for and the highest and best use for COUNTY needs, not more housing. Ruth Lawler

Given that question, the next should be: do you think our governor will follow the desire of the people for a supervisor of elections chosen on the the basis of merit rather than appointing a corrupt cronie who will be a puppet for his political moves?

Another classic column. So funny, and so true. We are lucky to have such talented writing shining a light on Manatee county governing.

The voter information purchased with public funds did not serve the public in any manner. If Commissioner Van Ostenbridge actually wanted to interact with District 3 residents he could simply respond to e-mails, answer his phone, attentively listen to in person public comment without belittling the public, or hold town halls on topics that residents of District 3 have requested. Instead with our tax dollars he creates a newsletter that looks a lot like a campaign flier.

"Off-label use of drugs is common, constituting up to one-third of all prescriptions for common drugs in the United States overall, and up to 97% of drug use in some patient populations.Feb 27, 2023" The forced choice advocates are in effect saying overrule the FDA and return to the earlier guidelines to reduce the use of this medication. Use of this medication under the current rules would then be off label. If the use of this medication is banned from off label usage then all medications being used off label must be banned from this practice also. Only a trained physician can explain to a patient what is safe off label use for their condition and then. This is nothing more than the forced choice people trying to run the lives of other people based on their beliefs.

An antidote to the "Manoshpere" would help. There is a direct informational pipeline of talking heads who are simultaneously fanning the flames of relational disfunction, real societal pain points and an unrealistic ideology of what the "good old days" looked like. At a certain point, that dynamic becomes intolerable and toxic to experience. And the rise of that "toxic masculinity" makes many women feel less safe, and therefore less inclined to participate.

Senator Boyd did propose a bill related to homeowner insurance - I think! I say this because I don’t even understand it except for the fact that it involves “Citizen’s Insurance”. Thus we have bills on abortion, historical monuments , AKA Confederate Statues, Guns for everyone and other nonsensical thoughts in the minds of our legislators. I would still assume that the average Floridian wants their homeowners, auto and flood insurance reduced. Are we going to spend 3 mos on drivel again? James Tierney

Certain people within the city government have been trying to sell the building for years. Back in 2014 there was a very popular exhibit in the auditorium drawing 7000-8000 people a month downtown (working models of Leonardo da Vinci inventions). Despite those numbers, they decided not to allow a permanent lease because they were thinking of selling the building. Within two years they stopped leasing it out altogether--said the auditorium was too expensive to maintain. (If interested, track down Bradenton Herald articles of 17 Jul 14 and 15 Oct 16.) Nobody talks about those economic benefits.

Jim Strickland is a Manatee County treasure, and a Florida treasure. As a fifth generation rancher residing in Manatee County, he is owner and managing partner of over 4500 acres in a cattle ranch operation adjoining Myakka State Park. His knowledge of and advocacy for conservation easements in Florida is invaluable. About 2% of Florida's population owns all agricultural land, yet approximately a third of Florida's land is currently agricultural. With the growing population and development, it is estimated that we loose about 120 acres of agricultural land a DAY, mostly to development. Go to 1000 Friends of Florida website and click on the tab Agriculture 2040-2070 for in depth overview of this topic. Ruth Lawler
