Fogartyville presents Miami-based jazz quartet Abstract Citizen, which channels its home city's multicultural influence into original compositions and performs them at the highest caliber. Under the wide umbrella of “modern jazz,” the band composes, arranges, and pushes their music to sound organic, honest, and fresh. Concertgoers can expect a rich blend of beautiful melodies, bold improvisation, and innovative takes on jazz—all delivered with genuine sincerity.
Aaron Lebos, an accomplished and well-known guitarist and composer, is always curious and hungry for musical growth. A fixture musician in South Florida for more than 25 years (touring with international Jazz vocalist Nicole Henry and composing for Nu Deco Ensemble, amongst many others), Lebos looked to the younger generation of Miami’s musicians to bring a new fire to his projects.
Thus, Abstract Citizen was formed and spearheaded by four envelope-pushing musicians: Lebos, Marty Quinn (bass), Vania Junco (vocals), and Lucas Apostoleris (drums). In 2023, Abstract Citizen won two prestigious grants, which allowed it to record and release its debut EP and tour across the United States in 2023.
One of those was the Jazz Roads touring grant from South Arts. The award made it possible for the band to bring their fresh global sound to areas of the country such as the Delta, Mississippi, Memphis, and rural Arkansas. The band then won the award again in 2025 and toured the Midwest including Chicago, Cleveland and more. Abstract Citizen will release its debut full-length album this summer.
