Bird Rock Raising the Dead this Weekend in VOTA

Posted
BRADENTON – Attention Deadheads, this weekend is VOTA's Art Walk, and local restauranter extraordinaire Dave Shiplett has two top-notch Tampa Bay area Grateful Dead-themed bands on tap at Bird Rock Taco Shack in Bradenton's Village of the Arts.

On Friday night, The Joint Chiefs will take the stage at Bird Rock's new surfer's bar. The band features members of Grateful Dead tribute bands Unlimited Devotion, Tread Lightly, and Uncle John's Band. Lead by the stellar, Jerry-Garcia-like guitar work of John Zais, the Chiefs are a first-rate group of top-notch professional musicians with national credentials.

You'll get the music of the Dead, along with other roots and psychedelic rock from the era in what is always a great time. The cover is only $5 and the music gets started at 6:30 p.m. Come hungry because Chef Dave is a taco auteur and if you can't decide which of the inventive concoctions on his menu are for you, my faves are theThai peanut and Brussels sprout, the pork al pastor, and the roasted beet and goat cheese.

On Saturday night, Dead Set Florida takes the stage. Dead Set has been faithfully bringing the music of the Grateful Dead to the Tampa Bay Area for five years. With an enormous catalog and faithful interpretations of the GD repertoire, their shows are always a good time for all. Saturday's show is set for 7:30 p.m. and the cover is only $10.

The new Bird Rock at 1213 13th Ave West is now the largest music venue in the Village. Come on out and support top-notch local live music at this local treasure!
