Bradenton City Council Agenda Results: February 27, 2013

BRADENTON – The monthly evening meeting of the Bradenton City Council was a relatively bare one. The council passed a light consent agenda, which consisted of a request made by the city's Police Department to use forfeiture funds for sighting systems for its SWAT Team, a line item budget adjustment for the same department, and an amendment and supplement for an interlocal agreement that affirms the use and funding of renovations for McKechnie Field. Councilman Patrick Roffwas absent due to being in Washington, D.C., for a League of Cities meeting.

Councilman Gene Gallo: Nothing to report.

Councilman Gene Brown: Just want to thanked everyone on the staff, Tim's department, the fire department, and the police department for their help so far during his first year on the Council.

Councilman Bemis Smith: Nothing to report.

Councilman Harold Byrd: Nothing to report.

Mayor Wayne Poston presented a Certificate of Achievement and a key to the city to "Honorary Mayor for a day", Trenton Johnson.  

 

11. DEPARTMENT HEAD REPORTS

City Clerk Carl Callahan: We received some information about another potential Kaboom! Imagination Playground grant. We sent out the information to our partners like the Boys & Girls Club and United Community Centers to see if there's any interest in participating on this particular grant. (UCC did say) they would be interested in looking at the grant with us. We would be going after the grant, and UCC would be supplying all of the matching moneys. If we're successful, (UCC) will be able to make it happen. I'm asking for your approval." A motion for approval of going ahead with grant was then made. (Motion passed 4-0, with Roff absent) 

Mr. Callahan also asked for approval for 9th Street in front of McKechnie Field to be closed down for Pirate Fest on Saturday, March 9. (Motion passed 4-0, with Roff absent.) 

Fire Chief Charles Edwards: "Nothing to Report."

Police Chief Mike Radzilowski: "I sent the council a memo the same day that I received the information (about two cars that the city had scheduled to go to auction)." Chief Radzilowski asked if the council had a chance to think about donating the cars, as "the (police academy) is in need of cars." (Motion adopted, passed 4-0, with Roff absent)

David Beauchamp, Assistant Director of Public Works: "Nothing to report."

Tim Polk, Director of Planning and Community Development: "Nothing to report."
