Charles Mellen

Charles "Charley" R. Mellen, passed away February 15, 2024, at his winter home in NW Bradenton, FL. Charley was born July 11, 1934, in Lowell, MA, the son of the late Charles R. and Lucy Mellen.
Charley graduated from Keith Academy, Lowell, MA, University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Boston College.

He played college baseball and football. After college, he served in the USA Army and US Army Reserves and played semi-pro baseball for the Phillies organization. Charley spent almost 40 years as a teacher of Mathematics and baseball coach for Nashua High School, Lowell State College, Lowell High School, and Keith Academy.

Charley led the Nashua High School baseball team to four Class L State Championships in 1976, 1979, 1991, 1993 and was inducted in the 1994 Nashua Athletics Hall of Fame.

Charley made the most of his retirement years splitting his time between his "Summer home in the Hamptons (Hampton Beach)" and winter home on Anna Maria Island and NW Bradenton, FL. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing from his "Charley's Angel" fishing boat, and meeting new and old friends and sharing his great sense of humor.

Charley is survived by his four children; Martha Jane and Michael Flynn of NW Bradenton, Charles and Roxanne Mellen of Nashua, NH, Kristina G. Mellen of Nashua, and Jeffrey and Nancy Mellen of Reno, Nevada; 8 grandchildren; Josh and Becky Vogel, Erin and Deigo Felipe, Charles R. Mellen III, Katlyn Maloney, Jared Maloney, Katherine Mellen, Annie Mellen, and Sara Mellen. He has one great-grandchild Sage Vogel and baby Vogel due in March, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Celebration of Life services and a Catholic Mass will be celebrated at a future date. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Lowell, MA. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209, is in charge of arrangements. Those who wish to remember Charley in a special way, may give gifts in his memory to a charity of their choice.
