Citizens Sought for Board Vacancies

BRADENTON -- Manatee County Government and the City of Bradenton are seeking to fill vacancies on several citizen boards. Bradenton is currently accepting applications for vacancies on the Architectural Review Board and the Code Enforcement Board, while the county is seeking to fill six vacancies on the Affordable Housing Advisory Board.

There is an opening on the City of Bradenton Architectural Review Board. This board meets as needed at 2:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month for the purpose of protecting and furthering the public interest and welfare of the City relating to historic and architectural preservation and enhancement, design compatibility and place making, and the aesthetic and physical improvement of the public realm for greater community benefit. Meetings are announced in advance by the Bradenton Planning & Community Development Department. Board members are expected to attend these meetings.

The City is seeking a board member who lives in the City limits and has a background in architecture, building and construction, urban planning, landscape architecture or historic preservation. However, these are not requirements and anyone may apply for consideration.

All volunteer board members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. Manatee County is accepting applications through March 22 for six vacancies on the Affordable Housing Advisory Board. The committee meets on an as-needed basis to review the County’s affordable housing-related policies, procedures, ordinances, land development regulations, and Comprehensive Plan. It also makes recommendations to encourage or facilitate affordable housing while protecting the ability of local properties to appreciate in value.

The available seats are for the following positions:
·        Someone actively engaged in the residential home building industry in connection with affordable housing;
·        A representative of areas of labor actively engaged in home building in connection with affordable housing;
·        A person actively engaged as a for-profit provider in connection with affordable housing;
·        Someone actively engaged as a real estate professional in connection with affordable housing;
·        Someone who lives in Manatee County;
·        Someone who represents essential services personnel.

Applications are due March 22 and may be found online at www.mymanatee.org/advisory_boards. The group meets as needed on the third Monday of each month at 3 p.m., usually in the Manatee County Administration Building, 1112 Manatee Ave. W.

There is an opening on the City of Bradenton Code Enforcement Board. Interested applicants should be a City resident and be able to attend the board’s monthly meeting at 2:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month.

All volunteer board members are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council. The City’s Code of Ordinances give the Code Enforcement Board the authority to host hearings, make findings of fact, render conclusions of law, issue orders and assess fines against violators of the city codes and ordinances.
