PALMETTO – Former Manatee County Sheriff Deputy Corie Holmes has filed to run for the Democratic nomination for Manatee County Commission District 2. Holmes will face incumbent commissioner Michael Gallen, as well as Palmetto City Commissioner Charles Smith in a three way primary.

Holmes ran for the District 1 seat in 2012. He went unnopposed in the primary before losing by a wide margin in the general election to the well-financed incumbent.

“My platform is based on three pillars: Public Safety & Strong Neighborhoods, the Economy, and our Environment," wrote Holmes in a release announcing his candidacy. "I will support adequate funding of our Fire Fighters, Emergency Medical Services (Marine Rescue), and Manatee County Sheriff's Office and secure their pensions."

"I will work to improve quality of life issues to include street lighting, sidewalks, roads, and boat ramps throughout Manatee County," continued Holmes. "My work will also focus on efforts to revitalize downtown Palmetto and Bradenton to make Manatee County more inviting to new businesses and job creators, and I fully support incentives for companies to relocate to Manatee County.”
