Bannister, David Burns, 76, son of the late Tilton Burns and Nancy Lou Gentry Bannister, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Bradenton, Florida on August 10, 2024.

Survivor's left to cherish his memory are his wife of almost 58 years, Marilyn Day Bannister; daughter, Nancy Day Bannister Jenkins; and son, Mark Burns Bannister and his wife, Jennifer; grandchildren, Christopher and Holly Jenkins, and Audrey Bannister. Richard Thomas Bannister, his only sibling, passed away in 2020.

David was a graduate of Paris High School and Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology. Most of his professional career was in the telecommunications industry as an Outside Plant Engineer, with employment by GTE, United Telecommunications of Florida, Bell South and AT&T.

He also was a homebuilder in Fayette, Scott, Shelby, and Franklin Counties in later life having served as past president and member of the Scott County Home Builders Association.

He could also craft beautiful pieces of furniture. His service to the communities he resided in included volunteer fire fighter for the North Naples, Florida, Volunteer Fire Department, Naples Jaycees, deacon, First Christian Church, Paris, Kentucky, and volunteer for the Franklin County, Kentucky Humane Society where he was a rotating manager for Saturday night Bingo.

David's love for dogs and cats was demonstrated over the years by the number of four legged critters that resided in the Bannister abode. David was always stepping in to help others whether it be a neighbor needing a gate/fence constructed, a biblical set needing constructed for vacation bible school or co-chairing the Western Hills High School Band Fruit Sales in Frankfort, Kentucky to name a few. As a father, he always attended any activities his children were in when they were growing up including waiting for that band bus to arrive sometimes at midnight or after!

He was also a member of the Society of Boonesborough having two direct lineal maternal ancestors, Richard Gentry and Henry Banta, who were early settlers (1775-1810) of Fort Boonesborough in Madison County, Kentucky.

No services are planned at this time. However, for those wishing to honor his life with a memorial donation, the family suggests donations to the Paris Animal Welfare Society, 6 Legion Road, Paris, Kentucky 40361, the First Christian Church, 911 High Street also in Paris, or a charity of one's choice. Brown & Sons Funeral Homes & Crematory 43rd Street Chapel, 604 43rd Street West, Bradenton, FL 34209, is in charge of arrangements.
