DAYTONA BEACH – The Marauders (57-48, 22-14) were blanked 7-0 by the Daytona Cubs in a series opening defeat on Monday night at Jackie Robinson Ballpark. The Cubs broke the game open by capitalizing on a one-out error in the second to plate four unearned runs against Jason Creasy (L, 6-6).
Daytona opened the scoring in the first, plating two runs on three hits. The four run second inning capped the night for Creasy after just two innings. Tyler Sample pitched 2 2/3 innings, surrendering one run in the fifth. Jhondaniel Medina pitched 2 1/3 scoreless frames. Bryton Trepagnier pitched the eighth inning.
Jordan Steranka, Justin Maffei, and Jose Osuna each had one hit for Bradenton. The Marauders did not advance a runner past second in the game.
Juan Paniagua (W, 1-1) pitched six innings for Daytona, striking out six and walking two. Tyler Bremer pitched two perfect innings and Austin Kirk hurled a scoreless ninth for the Cubs.
Game two of the series is on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. Shane Carle will pitch for the Marauders, with lefty Rob Zastryzny countering for the Cubs. The game will be broadcast online at www.BradentonMarauders.com.
