BRADENTON Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is expected to announce the launch of his presidential campaign Wednesday during an interview with Elon Musk on Twitter Spaces, according to NBC News. The event is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Tech entrepreneur David Sacks is scheduled to moderate the chat. Sacks is reportedly a Musk confidant and supporter of DeSantis' presidential ambitions. Musk has previously suggested that he too would support DeSantis were he to run for president.
The support of the Tesla/Twitter/SpaceX CEO, who has more than 140 million followers on the platform he acquired last year for $44 million, could give the governor, who has been trailing former President Donald Trump significantly in polls, a much-needed boost.
In addition to Trump, former South Carolina governor and UN ambassador Nikki Haley, and former Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson have announced intentions to seek the Republican Party's nomination. This week, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott also said he would join the race.
