Donald D. Rahrig, 93, of Bradenton, Florida, passed away on June 2, 2024. Born in McComb, Ohio, to Robert Leo and Ruth (Reynolds) Rahrig, he spent most of his life in Toledo, Ohio, before moving to Florida in 1999.
A proud 1949 graduate of DeVilbiss High School, Don was a standout athlete in football, basketball, and baseball, earning All-City and All-State honors in football. His achievements were later recognized with his induction into the DeVilbiss Hall of Fame in 1987. He continued his education at the University of Michigan on a football scholarship, graduating in 1954 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During his time at Michigan, he was a varsity football player, a brother of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and a dedicated alumnus for life.
After serving in the Army, Don enjoyed a 36-year career with Libbey Owens Ford, where he earned numerous patents in glass fabrication. His commitment to community service was evident through his roles as president of the Bowsher Athletic Boosters, cub master of Beverly School Pack 59, and director of Junior Achievement Toledo.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 70 years, Mary Jane; his sons, Robert Steven Rahrig and Donald Steven (Diane) Rahrig; and grandchildren, Clarke Logan (Haley) Rahrig and Carson Haley Rahrig. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert; and his sisters, Elaine Kimpon and Ruth "Bea" Finch.
Private services will be held. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
