Former Trump Spiritual Advisor Gets 6 Months for Sexual Abuse of 12 Year Old

Posted

PAWHUSKA, OK — Robert Morris, a megachurch pastor in Texas, was sentenced last week to only six months in jail after pleading guilty to sexually abusing a 12-year-old girl. He was a faith advisor to President Trump during his first term.

Morris admitted to five counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child, related to abuse that took place in the 1980s. The plea deal struck with prosecutors will allow him to serve only six months of a 10-year sentence, according to NBC News.

Morris will also pay $250,000 in restitution and be required to register as a sex offender. The lenient sentence has drawn sharp criticism from advocacy groups and legal experts who say the punishment is not proportional to the crime.

Morris is the founder of Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas, one of the nation's largest non-denominational churches. Services regularly draw more than 20,000 attendees. The victim came forward publicly in 2024, causing Morris to step down from the church.
