His co-workers often enjoyed outings with Vern on fishing cruises on Vern's pride and joy his boat, (The Road Runner) that he loved and owned for many years on his waterfront home on Riviera Beach, MD.

His love for waterfront homes and boats followed him to Florida where he spent his last 5 years in San Remo Shores doing what he loved doing, cruising his sea fox, and watching dolphins, manatees and the parrots. He loved this boat and loved sharing with his friends and family, having a couple of beers and enjoying life to the fullest. He was an outstanding captain having taken the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary boating & seamanship course on 4/28/1983. He knew all the tributaries of the Maryland Chesapeake Bay. He was full of Integrity, honor, respect, hard-working, loyal friend & smart, stubborn, smarty pants, funny, caring and the best personality that has enriched so many lives both in Baltimore & Bradenton and around the world.
